“Grilled limpets were something amazing! Mixed Fish w/ Seafood and 6 Large Prawns is really tasty. We even asked to pack it for take away, because the portion was too big. The dessert had too much sugar inside, but it was unforgettable. And the view… directly inside my heart.“

“Mandatory stop during a walk along the promenade.
Beautiful views of the sea.
As for the staff, don't expect miracles, they look tired, which I don't blame them for.
If you arrive at lunchtime but don't want food, just coffee and drinks, the staff will probably seat you somewhere with a less attractive view.
But beauty is everywhere, so don't stress and relax.“

“Very good food. From the menu I first ate the tomato and onion soup, very tasty. For the second, the swordfish with banana, delicious and very abundant, with all kinds of accompaniment (rice, black beans, potato...). And also, a very friendly treatment, they even invited us to a shot.“

“A small restaurant in Funchal, with quality. The boss has 2 more? Restaurants the Kampo and the Theos, I think. The kitchen is open with a counter where you can also eat as an individual. The dishes were imaginative and delicious. Even things that you might not like are prepared in such a way that they taste good. The main course grouper with seafood rice was AMAZING. Super delicious and we continued to eat even though we were full for a long time because the taste was really good... Thank you that there are still restaurants that cook fresh and good food in high season... It's a bit small but still great.
Great service and child friendly... THANK YOU
Kid-friendliness: Good“

“We ordered a fish from the daily catch with salad. We could choose the fish from the fridge. They prepared the fish quickly and the service was good. The waitress was decent and kind. We payed about 72€ (this price contains one big bottle sparkling water and a sprite).“

“The place was very nice, in the heart of old town. The area was crowded but the center looks this so it's fine. We ordered chicken steak, vegetable soup and pasta, everything was good. Service was really great. Ambience was nice as well. So I would definitely suggest this place for a nice dinner.“

“Hard to beat in terms of taste!
A quiet little side street that invites you to linger.
We had a very nice few hours, with good wine, a very tasty greeting from the kitchen, a very good starter, a main course that was perfect for me and a dessert in the restaurant to round everything off.
Absolutely recommended!“

“Very nice, well-kept environment, a little more refined than many typically tourist places. Relatively off the beaten track in central Funchal, but worth the walk. The tomato soup with egg was slightly acidic, but pleasant. The steak on the good stone, the garlic prawns do not leave an indelible memory. Friendly and smiling service. Advised.“

“In 2021, me and my fiancé probably had dinner with you. That day we spoke to a very nice waitress who was about middle-aged and spoke German very well (I think her husband came from Germany or Switzerland). In any case, we promised her that we would invite her to our wedding, but we never exchanged numbers. If this woman is with you and still remembers us, please tell us how we can reach you and invite you to Switzerland :)“

“Outstanding! Our favourite place in Madeira by a mile. The service was impeccable. Standout dishes were the starter of goat cheese pastry with pumpkin chutney. And the two mains we had of grouper with lime and seaweed risotto and fish filet with coriander squashed bread. An excellent, modern and fresh twist on traditional cuisine - thank you!
Only drawback was how hot it was inside given it’s an open kitchen - would have appreciated some aircon“

“We ordered the samurai sharing platter, and we would highly recommend it. It is great value for money. It was so fun to share and try all the different sushi's. The flavours were exceptional, and the service was incredible. The food was so good that we decided to order another plate of sushi based on our servers recommendation, and the chocolate brownie dessert sushi is a must try. We loved every aspect of this restaurant, and it created a magical evening. If you love sushi, then this is the place to go.“

“In a side street, inconspicuously located, the small restaurant offers an excellent regional and national cuisine of very good quality. At first glance, this jewel is easy to overlook at reasonable prices. We let ourselves be pampered several times.Highly recommended. [Original] In einer Seitengasse, unscheinbar gelegen bietet das kleine Restaurant eine vorzügliche regionale und überregionale Küche von sehr guter Qualität. Auf den ersten Blick ist dieses Juwehl zu vernünftigen Preisen leicht zu übersehen. Wir haben uns gleich mehrfach verwöhnen lassen. Sehr empfehlenswert.“

“Living in the Hotel Panoramico, we were looking for good, authentic local cuisine beyond the tourist mainstream. A few streets further on, we found what we were looking for in the Restaurante Casa da Sogra, which was not only within walking distance, but also very positive in every respect: owner-run family restaurant (the owner's parents are the chefs) with an unusually nice approach both from the senior personally and from the service (the owner's daughter actively works there). We were so impressed that we ate there again two days later and left the restaurant in a high mood. Excellent food without the chichi, great wine, wonderful dessert, excellent value for money! Thank you for the successful evenings, we'll be happy to come back!“

“The food was very good. We ordered some prawns, stuffed chicken, swordfish, spaghetti and spicy chicken. All very good. Very generous quantities.
The waiters are super friendly. They were very attentive to make sure everything was fine and they even recommended things to do in the area.
I would recommend it without hesitation.“

“We booked through The Fork and we were honestly surprised. The treatment was unbeatable, attentive service that takes care of the customer. We had a 30% discount for the application, however it did not apply to the specialty. Despite this, we ordered it and it was delicious, both the point of the meat and its juiciness. Without a doubt, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.“

“Restaurant, which doesn't look like much at first glance
Typical Portuguese restaurant with quality products, fresh and more than adequate quantity, all with reasonable prices. the friendly and smiling staff.
I highly recommend this address, I think we will return there this week.“

“Informal restaurant in the center that offers genuine cuisine mainly based on the catch of the day.
Excellent welcome and rabbits from Mario, owner and manager of the place, who with great joy animates Taverna da Sè with the help of his very faithful assistant George.
Reservation is recommended as it is an intimate venue.
Good quality/price ratio“

“If you look for a real topical place to eat local fresh fish, this is the place to go. For groups or families - not a romantic place- this is comfy, basic but sooooo tasty! It doesn’t pretend to be an elegant venue, correctly, but it won’t let you down.“

“This is a great local fish restaurant, I was there 2 times about 1 month ago. Can recommend the prawns, the squid and the good garlic bread, super tasty. All at very reasonable prices. The staff are very service-minded, fast and pleasant. Worth a visit for many reasons.
Will go there again.“

“Wonderful restaurant! Mauricio Faria, the chef, does a great job, especially when it comes to starters and main dishes (the pasta with lamb are amazing, as well as the fish we had). Waiters are very friendly and attentive, and the place, with its orange morrocan vibes, makes the experience even more appreciable. I unreservedly recommend :)“

“We love good food. And that's what you really get in this case! We ate at several restaurants in Funchal, but we visited this one no fewer than three times because the food was really great. Meat is well cooked, fish is prepared perfectly. The only downside is that the bus stops in front of the terrace. But if you eat inside, you won't have any problems with that. The decor of the place isn't anything special... but once again the food is really great! Nice service and food was served quickly.“

“We ate in this restaurant today and can only say: Chapeau! First-class food, very friendly, courteous and attentive staff, the price-performance ratio is right. We can recommend this excellent restaurant to anyone who wants to eat something quieter and more select.“
“Authentic Madeiran food which was beautifully cooked and tasted amazing. The staff were all very friendly and the service excellent. We had scabbard fish which was soft, delicate and very tasty, and also an octopus salad which was also very good. The owner recommended a bottle of wine which went very well with all of our dishes.“

“We were walking along the beach and this restaurant caught our eye.
For dinner we had a beef burger and picodas de carne.
The beef burger with fries was very tasty and, above all, very cheap at 9 euros.
I actually ordered picodas with chicken and not beef. Unfortunately it was a bit dry but otherwise very tasty. Especially the portion for 17 euros is also very inexpensive.
Iced tea and Barisa passion fruit also only 1.90 euros.
Unfortunately only 4 stars because of my food but otherwise only recommended, especially the price-performance ratio.“

“Everything good: friendliness, quantity, price, location and quality of the food. Let's see, very happy. I'm not saying it's the best restaurant in Funchal or the most organized service, but for the price, how delicious everything is and the effort they put into it, they deserve 5 stars.“

“Fantastic restaurant. I love going to Dona Amelia and it’s always a highlight when visiting Madeira. The food, service and ambience are all perfect. We went on Christmas Eve as a treat and were not disappointed! Dona Amelia is the standard all restaurants should strive to reach.“
“Busy cafe attended by many local Maderians. Table service, good pricing and friendly service. Food is tasty anything from a meal, sandwich or cake. Not overpriced and cafe cleanliness was good. Great little place to pop into
Kid-friendliness: Children come with their families and there is a nursery nearby
Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair friendly, has a lift“

“This place sits right on the beach, offering a serene atmosphere, especially during sunset. The food is simple and local, perfect for those craving hearty portions without the frills. While it may lack sophistication, the dishes are satisfying, and we found that adding a touch of salt and lemon enhanced the flavors. If you're a fan of mussels, give them a try as they seem to be a crowd favorite here. Personally, we didn't indulge as much in that, but the beer selection paired well with the small octopus and punnet offerings. Overall, a great spot to unwind with good food and beach vibes.“

“Interesting sushi that is beautifully prepared. We took a mixed platter and unfortunately had a lot of sushi with cheese. I would have liked a little more variety. The sushi with fried eggs is not for everyone, just like some of the other creations there. Still worth a visit.“

“This restaurant opened 19:00 on a Monday night in November. Posted hours are different on different web sites. This is a neighborhood joint. Mother runs the kitchen and son runs the dining room where there are maybe eight tables varying is size from 2 chairs to 8 chairs. We were the first to enter at seven, followed by a solo tourist, then a solo local. By 8pm the tables were full with local family and diners were being turned away even though one table for six had only one local sitting; he spent most of his time outside in front of the restaurant, talking on his cellphone. When we entered there was a TV on in the dining room with a constant back-and-forth dialog in Portuguese. After ordering, I asked in English if anyone were watching this and the son smiled sheepishly and soon the TV was turned off and the dining room became more comfortable. This was our first meal in Portugal. The mixed fish grill was not available so my partner had grilled sea bass and I had grilled sole. We ordered bread and butter but we did not order any f the few vegetable dishes. A small but nicely dressed salad was on the plate next to the fish, as well as boiled potatoes. This turned out to be pretty standard presentation for traditional Lisbon neighborhood tascas. (The exact menu in three languages is posted outside the door, so you can sketch in your dinner if you are waiting.) A wedge of lemon came on each plate. The fish was fairly bland, otherwise. We were unprepared for the number of bones we would have to pick out of the fish or out of our teeth. The archtecture of the restaurant was very interesting; it was the barrel-vaulted ceiling made of thin bricks supported by massive stone columns that one can find throughout Lisbon in buildings that are more than a century old. In summary: this is not a destination eatery but if you are in the Carmo neighborhood by virtue of a visit to the Carmo convent or the Igreja de Sao Roque and it is suppertime (and it is not Tuesday when the place is closed), then it might be worth a visit. I would order something without bones.“
“We were so lucky to find this place over Christmas 2020 - we didn't know if it would be open because of covid or not, but were able to eat there most nights we called in.The food is wonderful.Every day the maitre d suggested fantastic food and wine and I couldn't rate the restaurant higher. The quality of food and skill of cooking was really exceptional, and the service from the manager was next to none.I hope this venture gets the credit it is due when the pandemic is over: the food is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, the service is fantastic and the setting is stunning. Just a gorgeous experience from start to finish.“

“Nice place with a very pleasant atmosphere. The service is very nice, communicative and fun! We have been twice and the poncha has always been excellent, balanced and fresh. We didn't try the food but it looked great and we will definitely try it next time. Only Nikita didn't really impress us - ice cream and at least a piece of pineapple were missing.
Thank you for a very pleasant visit and we will be happy to come back :-)“

“Regional flavors was the first restaurant we dined at in Funchal. We particularly appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, who, even though the restaurant was closing, made us sit down to have dinner. We tried the bolo do caco and the scabbard fish with banana accompanied by a side dish of vegetables and sweet potatoes. Dishes not very abundant compared to other places tried in Funchal, but still good value for money.“

“We went in the late afternoon, at dusk. The place is busy and takes a long time, around 30 minutes or more for orders to come out. We ordered the large minced meat with sauce and pieces of tomato and mushrooms, served with a large portion of fries: this is the house's famous dish and it really doesn't disappoint. What disappoints is the poncha: small and hot. The view of the beach is very good and the place is lively, despite the service being too dry.“

“Discovered this restaurant quite late in the evening. Unfortunately we were no longer allowed to sit outside/regulation.
I didn't particularly like it inside, it was very empty except for a large table that was very loud
The service was friendly, we had a carpaccio de polvo, which was ok.
For the main course we decided on a risotto, it could have been a little more chunky, but otherwise it was very tasteful.
Priced a little higher because it was on a street frequented by tourists.“

“My family and I have been eating at this place for YEARS. Honestly, visiting it for about 20 years, it is a place that we like to visit in Madeira.
Served in a family-friendly way, it has typical Madeiran food but homemade, very tasty. It is a highly recommended site.
The tentacles are very tasty and so is the cod in cream. If you are in the Ajuda area and want to delight in typical Madeiran food at a good price and with excellent service, this is your place!
Parking: Few street parking spaces available.“
