“For the first time, we placed an order for home delivery, through the website, which in my opinion works very well, is very well done.
Good quality sushi and very good service.
There was an item missing from our order, which we complained about and they were promptly available to make the trip again to deliver what was missing.
Will be repeating, for sure.“

“Great meal and very warm people, including the chef. As a solo traveler, it sometimes feels awkward to go into a restaurant alone, but everyone was super warm and welcoming, and the food & sake were DELICIOUS. I loved the Karaage, Agedashi Tofu, Squid, and Wakame salad. The restaurant filled up very quickly, and I had a great time here ?“

“I usually use take away, and I've become an aficionado, as everything is good, from the starters to the suchi and we haven't had a single dish that wasn't good, everything is fresh and an experience on the palate. The staff are the right ones, the staff are top notch, the chef José is a good example of a master suchi, and the staff are attentive and devoted to their customers!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Parking: Here's the small problem, during the day you have to take it easy, at dinner it's always easier, sometimes with luck or a little further away, like 300 at the fair in the worst case scenario!!“

“I had the pleasure of dining at Ikigai Omakase João Vitorino restaurant, and it was an unforgettable dining experience. The food served is simply exceptional, with a special mention for the cod which was divine – the best bacalhau I have ever tasted. The toro sushi cooked live on an ember was also remarkable, a real explosion of flavors.
Although the meal takes time, around 3 hours, you don't see the time passing as the experience is so immersive. In addition, the sake menu is very comprehensive and the recommendations were perfect. An absolutely must-do experience for lovers of exceptional Japanese cuisine!“

“The overall experience is ok, but there's a lot to improve. After going to similar restaurants (i.e. Omakase Ri in Lisbon) or even comparing it with real Izakayas in Japan, I have to confess they have a lot to do in terms of receiving guest, turning the meal into an experience, keep the environment (sushimans talk loudly to the costumers they are serving at a specific moment) and maintain food rounds in a carrousel of flavours that starts smooth and end up blowing minds. I find the 65euros menu price acceptable, but probably i would get out hangry if they wouldn't had served bread along with the last course before desert - furthermore, at the initial approach in the restaurant they talk a lot about such a bread, elevating the expectations, but it end ups being a bit of a disapointment. I also have to say their kind of Izakaya was overall really good as they manage quite well the "spicy" and "salty" flavours that are not so common in Japanese cousine. Congrats for the innovation but please revise house rules and guest service. Cheers“

“One of the best, most delicious sushi restaurants I’ve had globally. Located in a quiet part of the city, we were the only ones dining there at 7:30PM on a weeknight. We shared the 30 piece sushi and veggie gyozas. Affordable for the high quality sushi.“

“Das Tokkotai ist ein sehr schickes Restaurant mit sehr aufmerksamem Personal. Das Gebäude ist in einem leicht unterirdischem Gewölbe und sehr stimmig eingerichtet. Das Essen ist wirklich sehr gut und sogar mein Cocktail war aussergewöhlich gut. Ein schönes Erlebnis, wenn man sich etwas gönnen möchte und den leicht höheren Preis total wert.“

“We had the tasting menu, which was 23.90 pp. The sushi was nice, but the food came way too fast after the course before. Because of that you can’t eat that much. We also got tamaki at first, which was a little big and our first and second plate of sushi were exactly the same. The staff was nice, but I don’t think it’s worth it. It’s better to order sushi rolls by yourself or the restaurant should bring some sushi by two pieces pp at the time, not a whole plate.“

“Sushi 10/10, always so fresh and delicious!! Very reasonable prices, especially for the level of quality offered. My favorite place for sushi in Leça, the restaurant's atmosphere is very pleasant but it also has a great takeaway service to take away and eat on the beach (i.e. across the street)?“

“My family and I have passed by this restaurant several times. It always appeared to be doing a lively business so we decided to give it a try. We all enjoy sushi so we were looking forward to the visit. The restaurant had received good ratings and our experience confirms those good ratings. The food was very good. The sushi was well prepared. The nigiri were also well prepared. Our favorite was the dragon roll. But quite frankly, everything was very good. The fish was fresh and tasty. The rice was prepared well and not overly clumpy. And the prices were much less than one would expect get in the quality and quantity of the food.“

“I have ordered a couple of times, their food is incredible... The kanaage chicken is superb.
Called one time to ask what should I order, and the lady who spoke to me advised the drunken chicken noodles, and I can tell you it was delicious.
Have not gone to the restaurant "yet" , but I would bet its 2x better than delivery.
Very good job, Take a Break, can't wait to dine in!!!“

“We didn't know about it and we got a reservation with very little notice: a resounding success. Contained portions but with a lot of flavor, originality and personality. The boy who attended us, friendly and explanatory, advised us very well. A rude, noisy Spanish couple with three children spoiled our evening, but the locals knew how to manage it well, thank you for that and we apologize on behalf of the Spanish people. We will be back.
Kid-friendliness: In such an intimate environment, it's best to leave the kids at home.“

“Nestled in a quiet side street in Porto's Bonfim area, Izakaya Japanese Cuisine Restaurant is a hidden gem you might easily overlook if you’re not searching for it. Despite its unassuming location, this intimate establishment is well worth seeking out for its unique take on Japanese cuisine. With only about a dozen seats, including a cozy sushi bar, Izakaya offers a personalized dining experience where chef Rúben Mesquita frequently engages with patrons as he crafts each dish.
The atmosphere is casual and intimate, with a mix of international guests and local couples seated at the sushi bar during our visit. Reservations are a must, as we learned a few years ago when we tried to drop in spontaneously and were politely turned away due to the restaurant’s limited seating. After finally booking a spot well in advance, we received thoughtful reminders leading up to our dining date. On the day of, the chef or manager even called to inquire about dietary restrictions, a gesture we appreciated, given my wife’s aversion to raw seafood.
Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and seated promptly without the need for introductions. The service, although attentive and knowledgeable, is understandably paced, given that only two staff members manage the entire operation. The menu, which varies daily based on ingredient availability, was meticulously explained to us, as was the thoughtfully curated wine list.
Our culinary adventure began with a delightful chef’s treat: a ball of diced raw tuna coated with dried seaweed, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a thoughtful touch, though I found it curious they served it to my wife, given her preference for cooked dishes. The remainder of our meal was presented in courses, highlighting the chef’s modern interpretations of Japanese classics.
We started with shrimp tempura which was expertly prepared. I indulged in a selection of sashimi and Kobe beef nigiri, while my wife opted for the Okonomiyaki. One of the highlights was the soy sauce, imported directly from Japan, and the fresh wasabi, grated tableside—a rare treat even in Japan.
While I relished each dish, the pacing might be a consideration for those with dietary preferences, as my wife found herself waiting as I savored the raw delicacies. However, this also allowed us to appreciate the exceptional wines paired with our meal. The Quinta de Ceis, Caracol dos Profetas, and the intriguingly dry Respiro Ciarete blend were all selected to complement the subtle flavors of the Japanese cuisine.
For those new to Japanese food, Izakaya is a culinary treasure, offering detailed explanations of each dish that serve as an educational experience. However, seasoned travelers or those familiar with authentic Japanese dining may find the chef’s creative interpretations less traditional. Regardless, the combination of excellent food, engaging service, and carefully chosen wines makes Izakaya a memorable destination.
With its charming atmosphere and unique culinary offerings, Izakaya earns a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The restaurant provides an intriguing glimpse into Japanese cuisine, with a special emphasis on presentation and flavor that will surely delight both novices and aficionados alike. Do remember to bring a bit of patience for the personalized service—it is well worth the wait.“

“Food was great, we had the lunch menu, the quality of the fish in all courses was star level. The wine was also great, the acidity matched, but it was too dry for the fish. The service was nice, but not courteous, the menu included green tea and since I had wine with lunch, I was not informed about it or offered water instead. The tip that was sold to me as a tax was also on the credit card.“
