“FANTASTIC breakfast/brunch! Food was very fresh and delicious. Portions were huge and could be shared. Great variety of options as well. They do not take reservations but the line moves quickly. At the same time, once seated we did not feel at all rushed. I highly recommend it!“

O Gaveto Cafe • $$

“My dinner at O Gaveto was the highlight of my recent trip to Portugal. We ordered so many wonderful dishes, and each one was better than the first. We ate for hours : the barnacles were as though they were taken directly from the sea, and the scallops were the most divine thing I have ever eaten in my life: they were silky, creamy, salty...just incredible. We had a dish with rice and lobster which was so delicious and had a wonderful depth of flavor . The wine list was also incredible. I ordered a bottle from one of my favorite producers, and minutes later he ended up sitting at the table next me- and before we knew it, were suddenly sharing stories and wine with him. What are the chances?!?! The service was OUTSTANDING, and they were so patient as my friend continued to order more and more food and wine. I will never forget my evening at O Gaveto - this is a DO NOT MISS restaurant just outside of Porto. Absolutely wonderful - I highly recommend it. Thank you O Gaveto for your hospitality, your classic service, and for an evening I won't soon forget.“

Café Estádio Valonguense Cafe • $$

“I was hunting for a place to eat on my last night in Lisbon and as I was perusing the menu to Cafe Nicola, one of the helpful waitstaff. He informed me that the restaurant is the oldest in Lisbon, and when I did some checking, I discovered it was founded in 1787. Wow! The interior is classy, quiet, since it was late for lunch and early for dinner. I chose the octopus rice, which was satisfying. The fries were, once again, not up to par. What's up with the fries in Lisbon? Can no one make decent fries? It's not hard. For dessert, I had the chocolate cake, which wasn't sweet or taste very chocolatey. Is this typical for this restaurant or just this particular recipe? I had nothing else to compare the cake to since I've mostly been eating pastel de natas and gelato. But if it looks like a chocolate cake but doesn't take like one, is it still chocolate cake?“
