“My group of 12, who came partly from Alberta, had many expectations which were all met. Excellent family evening, abundant food, lively music, impeccable service. We were all delighted. Our big eaters asked for some of the dishes served again and it was with a smile that the dishes were renewed. We danced to our hearts' content. A thunderous atmosphere. The entertainment was excellent. The visit to the site in French for part of the group and in English for the other was rich in history. “Definitely family friendly. Preface, I was visiting QC from the States. I kind of liken this place as a Cracker Barrel, but with a more modern ambiance. The menu is simply curated, and it covers all the bases. Keep in mind the Canadian palate is a little different than Americans. The portions are smaller, but the food is more thought out. We're not just talking eggs and bacon here. More of a First Watch menu. The staff was super nice and helpful. French is the primary language here, but the staff tried very hard to communicate with me. They made me feel very comfortable. They do have menus in english if you request them. They told me Normandin restaurants use to be a staple in every Quebec town. Times were a little rough, and they eventually had to re-invent themselves to what they are today. So there are less locations, but if you look you will still find them off major highways. For a quick and nice sit down breakfast you will find this place perfect.“

“We had a very good experience here. The food was quite good, the service was friendly, and the space was relatively attractive. I recommend this place, with caveats.Perhaps I set my expectations too high. For the price point, everything should be flawless. My comments are not complaints, just observations to guide other diners so they know better what to expect.One thing that is more than a nitpick is that the left wall (brick) in the restaurant is lit with modern tubular lights that I found very harsh. I was facing that wall, and really regretting it. They should be turned lower significantly, or better yet, replaced with bulbs that have a much lower value on the warmth scale. (These were about 6,000K, whereas a 3,000K would be much less harsh on the eyes.) It contributes to a modern aesthetic that is too cold.The music playlist was varied, and occasionally a bit too hip-hop for my taste. This is an individual taste and not a general complaint.Most of the dishes were excellent. I would recommend the add-on of the foie dish if it is available. It was really memorable and decadent.The portion sizes are spot-on, and generally well-balanced. On the night we were there, one dish, the tuna, lacked seasoning and was visually unappealing. But the fish was perfectly cooked. It just lacked visual appeal and taste.I found the informal service manner of sitting with the patrons on the banquette, or squatting while conversing with the diners to be a bit odd. I suppose it is meant to express a casual friendly hospitality, but it didn't work for me. But "a chacun-a-son-gout" as they say.Enjoy!“

“The food was excellent as always (blessed salmon tartare). This is the second time we have had the same server (unfortunately I didn't remember his name, next time!). We were not disappointed having dinner there, we let ourselves be tempted by the weekend poutine which was just delicious, the salmon tartare and a burger. “The restaurant is only over 60 years old but in a building that is over 300 years old. The atmosphere is so warm and comfy with the service being exceptional. If you are a tourist in Quebec and want to try some of the local dishes, this is a place I recommend without breaking the bank and being authentic and flavourful at the same time. My kids enjoyed the meals by the fireplace and will always be a great memory for us visiting Quebec.“
