My two adult children and I had a wonderful experience here. Warm, cozy setting; excellent food; friendly, capable staff; inventive drinks. Hard to ask for more.

Always a lovely, cozy time at Barraco bar. Marc, our bartender, is talented and very knowledgeable. If the clever cocktail menu doesn’t strike your fancy, his depth of palettes and flavour profiles will find the right notes to refresh you.

On a friend's recommendation, I made reservations to try this place for a Sunday evening 6 pm. There was plenty of street parking at no fee because of the reservation time. The host/waiter greeted us warmly and showed us to our table, right by the window. The restaurant is quaint and cozy, as was the ambiance. At the time of arrival, there were less than 10 guests seated. Soft music played in the background so conversation was easy. I started off with the featured cocktail (gin based) and some red wine for my guest, then ordered a dozen oysters, 16 oz rib steak (medium rare) and endive salad for my guest and 2 appetizers for me: scallop and leek with Bercy sauce and beef marrow and the beef tartare with Foyot sauce and country bread. My guest thoroughly enjoyed the red wine, oysters, steak and salad while I enjoyed everything except for the scallops and leeks dish. The flavor was good, but the texture of the cooked leeks along with the scallops just felt too slimy for my liking. If I could do it again, I would have ordered the octopus salad. I paired my meal with a glass of Sancerre.
For dessert, we ordered the assorted nuts nougat with strawberry salad and the olive oil cake, whipped cream and raspberries and some mint tea. The nut nougat was fantastic and the olive oil cake was so light and delicious. By the end of our meal, the place was 90% full.
Overall, it was a great experience with high quality food and drink paired with wonderful and knowledgeable staff. It is definitely worth another visit. Thank you!

Barroco is a very charming restaurant in Old Montreal — super cute atmosphere, cozy, and the music was absolutely on point. The place itself has a really nice vibe, perfect for a romantic dinner or a night out.

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the food. I ordered the ribeye, and even though I specifically asked for medium, it came way overcooked. The meat was dry and lacked flavor — honestly very, very mediocre for the price. The bill was also quite high, which made the whole experience even more disappointing.

If you decide to go, maybe try something other than the steak, because unfortunately, that was a big letdown.

First the atmosphere: It’s stylish, cool, comfortable with a great eclectic sound track playing just loud enough so we could still speak comfortably,, with a handsome young clientele, save my wife and and I who are 70 but felt very welcome— the manager personally suggesting we sample the wines before ordering— both wonderful reds, our waitress, actually saying we had made her day. We shared the farm salad with crispy chicken skin bites that added the perfect savory touch to the super fresh greens, fantastic filet mignon, and probably the best lamb I’ve ever had. We shared the classic French dessert- madeleine’s, warm and freshly baked served with an amazing dark chocolate orange/lemon infused truffle with our espressos. The only slight criticism I have is that the bread was served grilled — great idea, but a little burnt which left an aftertaste for hours afterwards. But we definitely plan to return on our next visit to Montreal!

What a divine little restaurant. Had a lovely time having dinner at Barroco, the bar man was fantastic and so attentive. I had the leeks and scallops for entree, omgoodness - delicious! A must have. The flavours in this was something else. And the beef for main cooked to perfection again the flavours in the jus and puree was delicious. Highly recommend this place. Very nice selection of wines and cocktails aswell.

Fourth time in 5 years. We try to go every time we are in Montreal. Nice ambience in a small, old Montreal setting. Exceptional food and wine. Beautiful service as unobtrusive or nice banter as you want it to be. Exceptional at servicing gluten free and food intolerances. We always have fun here for two or a bigger group. They are often full but sometimes you get lucky calling day before or same day.
