Fast, friendly service, and good coffee. Cozy and affordable. Mainly older Porteguese gentlemen are hanging out here, playing dominos, watching soccer, and chatting. It reminds me of our neighborhood tea houses in the old country (Istanbul, Turkey).

I live around the corner from this place and for 3 years, everyday I’ve walked by. Honestly, I’ve never been inside but the men always sitting outside, yelling at each other while enjoying a coffee always makes me feel right at home. Café Centrale, never change.

My mother, sister-in-law, and I were in the mood for coffee after having dinner at a nearby restaurant on a Tuesday. We arrived at the café around 9:30 PM. Three Portuguese patrons occupied seats at the bar while Portuguese news played on the televisions. It was well-lit, and the absence of music was a welcome contrast to our loud dinner. We ordered 3 "café com leite", 3 flans, and 1 pastel de nata—all for just $24. Domingos, who graciously attended to our order at the counter, was warm and made us feel welcome; we spoke to him in Spanish, he responded in Portuguese. He brought our flans to the table and offered to splash them with Cointreau, to which we happily agreed. Once we were done with our desserts, he kindly treated us to a glass of Porto while we talked about Venezuela (our home country) and the Portuguese diaspora who lived there. It was the perfect ending for our weeknight out. Make sure to bring cash, since it's cash only.

My husband really wanted to visit this cafe because he expected great Portuguese food and male bonding over futbal/soccer. It was fabulous and tasted like the food my mother made.

Great atmosphere! Had the pork dish, and all the deserts (couldn't resist!) Was delicious in a way that only homemade can be!

This is a neighbourhood place frequented by people who have known, spent their lives with and shared card games, coffee, drinks, challenges, joys and all of life's experiences for a half a century and more, in many cases. The food makes many of those who left Portugal so long ago feel at home. The coffee is the way that they would have it in Portugal. Despite have no connections to the language, culture and country that so many here share, for 20 years they have shown me wonderful welcoming and hospitality. It's an oasis of another time and place. If you go in accepting that, you will have a very special experience and will almost certainly want to return.

The food is so yummy and the staff are very nice. Unfortunately, pay by cash. I'd like to know when the staff is taking order to inform me if they have credit card/debit

Go for the coffee. Authentic, unpretentious atmosphere.
