I saw a lot of reviews of this place that were positive so we wanted to check it out while visiting Montreal on our last day. We went to many other places with everyone being so polite. Anyways- Despite the service being slow, nearly an hour to get our sandwiches i would never complain because I understand things are out of people's control. The food was fine. Not amazing, but the vibe is what you go for anyways. However what really upset me was my friend who is foreign paid and couldn't realize the machine is touch screen- so she skipped tipping on accident. I know her well and she does tip normally at sit downs even though its not really common in her culture. Immediately after she pays the waiter asks if she has a problem with her service in which she confused, responded no. She then goes on about how tipping isn't included in the price and we're now extremely uncomfortable. If you want tip to be mandatory add it to the price. A tip is preferred but not enforced and being rude to customers is not the way to receive one. As someone who's worked in service id never say that to a customer. The rest of us tipped anyways but after that i really didnt want to, as we all always do at restaurants but if you want to go somewhere with kind staff I do not recommend it as I felt disrespected.

Everytime I visit Montreal I must stop for a chai and Duluth sandwich. Idk how they get the bread that soft and delicious but I am very appreciative for its existence. Also our server Jo was the best ever!!! Would come back just for her.

We waited about 15-20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us or the people in front. I layer learned thay was because they assume you want to sit int garden area and just wait to talk to you until a spot opens up but im use to waiters at least letting you know the wait time or checking if you want to sit inside.
Either way I see why the garden is the assumption. Its peaceful and funky with nice water features, art, and plenty of natural cover. Tones of birds fish and squirls are right next to you all the time and most of the seating seems like it has a good view of it.
The coffee itself was pretty good as well. The iced late was a nice fresh drink on the hot day and they even had a little strawberry on the straw.
Overall if you want a cute garden and dont mind a wait, its a good spot.

Nice cozy café
This place is so unique. Just a chill, relaxing vibe and the carrot cake (recommended by my chiropractor lol) was amazing. Staff were all great, friendly and conversational too.
Garden is a must, too many people, line ups are common ,still worth it,oldest place in the plateau.
Really enjoyed the food and coffee! Cute spot and huge sandwich. Would go back for sure :) I tried the triple saint urban sandwich with chicken! The sweet and savoury combination was absolutely amazing!!!!
This cafe is an experience. I'm he sandwiches are fulfilling and the beverages are on point. Reasonable quantity and price.
I'd definitely visit again to try something new but I'm more into the place and how it's designed. Loved it !
Atmosphere is great! Reminds me of LA ! Made me super nostalgic... love that they had vegan and vegetarian options.
Salad was nice. Sandwhich was good mostly cuz I was starving. Id go back to try the vegan mac n cheese! Definitely curious. I wouldnt buy the sandwhich again like it was okay. Salad would take again tho.
Vibe was great. Restroom was horrible lol

Beautiful patio and interesting choice of food.
Beautiful experience in the garden shade, beautiful hosts and customer service. Beautiful food, love you work ❤️.
I’ve recommended this place to many people in the past because the service and food used to be excellent. Unfortunately, my recent experience was quite disappointing. When a server showed us to a table, we noticed another empty one with a better view and chose to sit there instead. When she returned, she said, “I thought I said this table,” with a noticeably rude attitude. While we may have made a mistake by switching tables, it could have been handled more politely.
Later, the waiter who took our order brought me a dirty glass. I asked for a replacement, but instead of addressing it, he continued serving other tables and ignored us. When I followed up again, he responded with a dismissive “yeah” without even looking at us. This kind of treatment is not what I expect as a customer, especially from a place I used to admire!
Not to mention, it took quite a while for someone to take our order — even though we arrived before the group next to us, they were served first. We eventually had to flag someone down just to place our order.
Food was still good and had good quality but service disappointed me!
Do not visit, scam alert! Ordered the Mac and cheese (after waiting in line in an empty restaurant for 20 minutes), and paid 20$ for the most bland food I have ever tasted. It was honestly more lettuce than actual pasta. I was not given a receipt and instead I was overcharged for the wrong menu item. I tried to leave a tip but the machine was so laggy and the service had been so terrible that I decided not to leave one. The waitress then harassed me to tip and was extremely rude. 0/5, seriously find somewhere else.
Amazing sandwiches and a beautiful garden setting, a must visit in Mile End!
