We recently visited Mémo after being inspired by glowing food vlogs and the chef's reputation. Having dined at over 100 Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide (from Europe to Asia and North America), we approached this intimate Montreal spot with high but open expectations for the 5-course dégustation menu with wine pairings.
The first two courses delivered real excitement creative, well-executed, and full of flavor. We were genuinely anticipating the rest of the meal to build on that strong start.
Unfortunately, everything unraveled from the third course onward. The dishes became increasingly lackluster, culminating in a beef course that was completely tasteless and poorly seasoned a shocking low point in what should have been a highlight. There was no digestive offered or even suggested at the end of the meal, not coffee or tea with desert. Which felt like a basic oversight in a tasting-menu format at this price level.
Service, while initially attentive, dragged significantly: we waited a full 20 minutes just to settle the bill after the meal concluded, which killed any lingering positive momentum.
The $20 cocktails were forgettable at best mediocre mixes that didn't justify the price.
For those who haven't experienced many top-tier restaurants, Mémo might feel impressive due to the intimate setting and chef interaction. But for seasoned fine-dining enthusiasts, this was one of the most average and inconsistent experiences we've had in recent years. The early promise simply wasn't sustained, and at dégustation pricing, consistency across all courses is non-negotiable.
We won't be returning and can't recommend it to anyone familiar with true high-end cuisine. Sad to note great potential is there, but execution fell far short.

Very cozy quiet little restaurant in old port.
Had a tasting menu and it was 50/50 delicious and so so. (Hence the 4stars) service was a little slow but not unreasonable. I enjoyed myself and would recommend this place to a friend.

From the delicious fine cuisine menu, to the top notch service and the intimate atmosphere, it’s a slam dunk

The whole restaurant is basically run by one chef, so the food comes out quite slowly. It’s not expensive, but guys might find the portions a bit small. The sauces and seasonings are excellent, though the ingredients themselves are pretty ordinary. Not sure if they change the menu often, but this time it was just okay. Since it’s in the Old Port downtown, the place is small and the seats are quite tight — but the atmosphere is super cozy and perfect for chatting.

Fantastic restaurant. It may not have a Michelin star yet but it sure deserves one. From the friendly and detailed service to the careful preparation of dishes that will get all your taste buds going. Wonderful experience!

Our first visit to Mémo was a memorable ;) experience. Each course was delicious and the service was professional yet friendly. Being served by the chef himself made everything more elevated. The decor is beautiful. A must visit and we recommend the tasting menu. 🍽️

We ate at Memo for the second time recently and again the food really impressed us. The service is excellent and we like that the venue is a small and more intimate one. We are recommending it to our friends and hope that the word spreads so that this special restaurant is a permanent fixture of the Montreal restaurant scene.

One of my fave restaurants after trying so many. The waitress asked us what our preferences are for food and they made a menu while making sure there aren’t any of the ingredients we’re not fans of. Everything was delicious but I was most impressed by the duck.
The chef personally came to introduce every dish to us with a cute interesting story. The service was excellent and they wrote a little card for birthday wishes.
The restaurant is very small but it was very cozy and comfortable.

This might be a great place for tourists, but in the opinion of this local, our meal was a flop. I will say, it was a sweet touch for the chef to come out and personalize the dishes (saying this was what he made for his girlfriend, etc.), but the wait between services when there were so few people in the restaurant surprised us. The six course menu was served to us over 3 1/2 hours. It kind of felt like they were waiting us out so that we would order more wine or overpriced water or whatever. Foodwise, there were some highs and lows, but most of it was bland, though beautifully plated. The endives were nice; the dessert was terrible and most of the gels tasted chemical.

Such a lovely staff! warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Beyond the great cocktail list, the menu has some unexpected gems. And if you’re feeling a little adventurous, don’t hesitate to ask the chef for something special — there’s magic happening in that kitchen 😉
This spot feels like a little secret you’ll want to come back to.
