Worst lamb vindaloo, Pathetic customer service I ordered a lamb dish, however the cook soaked it in chilly to the point i had to empty a yogurt container and eat ice cream to quell the fire plus it wrecked my date.

I called them and they offered a butter chicken for the inconvenience instead when I got there they billed me and told me to choose mild on the app if I choose to order next time.Never again

Heads up -I am a Indian, have eating spicey food since birth however this was not food it was just a box of chillies with a little lamb thrown in any white person would have ended up in hospital.

First of all this was my first travel to Montreal. I have planned this trip in three previous occasions and life (Covid, hurricanes,,etc) caused me to cancel. Each time I made a reservation to eat at Le Taj. I was so excited that after 4 years and 3 canceled trips, I had finally arrived. The seating was a perfect romantic nook by the window. The lighting was dim to set the mood for a intimate birthday dinner. Our server had been working at the location for 38 years. The owner was engaged with the customers. I wanted to take a picture with him but he left shortly after we arrived. The food was excellent. Flavorful, rich, authentic! I recommend this place to anyone living or traveling to the city.

We came to Le Taj based on strong recommendations, but left completely disappointed. Appetizer portions were tiny—two pieces of chicken for five people, and the veg platter had just one of each item. No warning, no explanation.

We asked for spicy food, but it came out bland. Worst of all, the staff were rude and made us feel unwelcome. As Indians, being judged and treated this way by an Indian restaurant was honestly shocking—a real “friendly fire” moment.

We didn’t tip, and we don’t regret it. If you value respectful service and honest hospitality, this place isn’t it.

Best and oldest Indian restaurant in Montreal, about 40 years old. The service is impeccable by the amazing and sweet staff. Even the owner goes from table to table to make sure the guests are having fun. The food arrival is always quick either is busy or not. Every single dishes from appetizers to dessert are beyond delicious. Always well flavored, and nicely and tenderly cooked. The restaurant is simply beautiful with the vintage Indian decors. The vibe is happy and satisfying with the service and food. 100% recommended.

I had the opportunity to try Le Taj for the first time today to celebrate my wedding! We went for the lunch buffet which had a great variety of dishes that can please every palate. The service was impeccable! I greatly recommend this restsurant. Thanks to Le Taj, we got to celebrate our special day with a beautiful meal, timeless decor and incredible service!

Excellent service — attentive to food allergies, quick expedient too — delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Classy, chic, very nice. Will be back, a staple in Montreal.

Tried La Taj this past Saturday for their weekend buffet, and honestly, the experience did not live up to the hype at all. As an Indian who appreciates authentic flavours and variety, this was one of the most disappointing Indian restaurants I’ve visited in Montreal.

The buffet selection was shockingly limited — no aloo in aalo gobi.. no paneer dishes, just plain moongi dal, gobi, and even zucchini?
That’s not what you’d expect at an Indian buffet, especially at this price point. There was hardly any variety, and the flavours were far from what you’d find at a decent Indian spot.
I feel like its good for people who are unfamiliar with the indian flavor lol

We were a group of three and paid $120 for 3 buffets and 3 drinks — completely not worth it for what was served. If you’re looking for good Indian food in Montreal, I’d strongly suggest exploring other options.

To all my fellow Indians out there: skip this place.

We dined in today for the all-you-can-eat option. The items they offered were definitely tasty, but in my opinion, not worth the $30 price tag.The naan served was especially good soft, fresh, and flavorful. The menu had very limited options, and I was especially disappointed that biryani wasn’t even included in the standard menu. Overall, the experience left me unsatisfied.

They call it Dall Soup and my expectation was this will not be that different from Dall but basically what I got was 95% water and a few pieces of dall! I heard a lot of good words about this place so my expectation was after i go to them they give me dall but they said this is what it’s supposed to be 😕 also no offer to refund …

I’d like to share my feedback: this was definitely not a buffet, or anything close to it. The selection was extremely limited and disappointing. Imagine going to an Indian buffet with no biryani—just one type of rice, aloo gobi, and mushrooms. Apart from that, there was butter chicken and one meat dish. That was it. I paid 35$ with taxes for this, but it was nowhere near worth the price.
