Hands down some of the best French food you can find on this side the pond.
The foie gras is to die for and they have a varied menu of top-cut steaks, salmon, and handmade pasta.
Put on your best shoes and enjoy the food, service, and atmosphere at this lovely hotel bar and restaurant.
Amazing food and service. You go there if you want to really experience French at it's best
I was expecting a lot, and I was surprisingly underwhelmed. the space is magnificent, the service near perfect, but the food... It would've been disappointing at a normal price, but at this price it is borderline insulting - 28$ for a smoked salmon bagel that was not worth that price! We were a party of 15 for a friend's birthday, and, without exaggeration, only 3 or 4 of us were satisfied with their order (for example: smoked salmon that looked like it had spent hours on the counter, everyone who ordered steak got it overcooked or not cooked to their desired doneness, lackluster presentation). Definitely not going back.

I loved the patio. Service was excellent and the avocado toast was lovely
My boyfriend and I went here for dinner, and unfortunately the food was pretty disappointing. The service was good, and the staff were friendly, which is the only reason I’m not giving one star.
The worst part was dessert. We ordered the ice cream cookie, and literally seconds after leaving the restaurant, we both threw up. My boyfriend threw up multiple times, and it was the cookie that came back up. It completely ruined our night , and is really unacceptable for a restaurant with such a high rating .

This restaurant is one of the best fine dining experiences I have had thus far. Their wait staff are excellent and attentive. They are able to make changes for dietary needs with ease. Their cocktails and mocktails are a highlight. This is the perfect spot for a date night or a high end client meeting.
Their main hostess is also excellent at her job. She remembered each of our names each time we returned and was always very welcoming.

Carl B was the the most awful server ever! He was rude and delayed in putting our meals in on purpose. We had to flag him down continuously.... he was attentive until we were not going to get a bottle of wine...... then just rude…I will never go back or recommend this place. As for the food asked for my near to be cooked medium.... it was well done. Nibbled at it at best.... because I did not want to wait another 30-45 min to get another meal prepared. It was not very busy in there when we got there. Several of his other tables arrived after us and had gotten their food and were almost finished eating before ours even arrived.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ — A Beautiful Setting That Almost Delivers
Henri is one of those restaurants where the atmosphere does a lot of the heavy lifting — and rightfully so. Housed in the landmark Birks Building in the heart of downtown Montreal, the dining room is spacious, bright, and elegantly decorated in 19th-century French brasserie style — genuinely impressive, especially for a visitor.
Service was attentive and warm throughout, which made the experience pleasant from start to finish.
On the food side, a clear highlight was the salad with goat cheese, orange, and beetroot — beautifully balanced, fresh, and exactly what you’d hope for from a French brasserie. The burger was solid — well-prepared, nothing to complain about. The fries, however, could use some work on the crispiness front — but as any traveller across Canada quickly discovers, truly crispy fries seem to be a rare find coast to coast.
Overall, Henri is a great spot for the atmosphere and selected dishes. Worth a visit if you’re downtown — just temper expectations on the sides

Restaurantji Recommends
It was a real delight, the food was magnificent and for once in that kind of place portions we're huge! The squid was superbly grilled so it was tender and savory, the steak was cooked to perfection and with blue cheese it was a perfect meal. My only concern would be that the service was a bit amateur while usually these places have a staff of seasoned servers some of them looked a bit loss and even if the place was not even half packed we had to wait for service. But a minor concern for this beautiful place in downtown Montreal

Beautiful restaurant with nice decoration and ambiance. The service was excellent.
Best Caesar salad ever had. Ribeye and Salmon were excellent. Chocolate cake with ice cream was delicious.
Highly recommended for a romantic dinner.

Decadent and bougie. An indescribable experience, except, I just described it in two words! If you've got a few bucks laying around, you could spend it on worse things, just saying!

The restaurant is an impressive nod to old-world elegance and fine dining. We chose it to celebrate an important occasion and had been looking forward to the experience. Unfortunately, service from the kitchen was inconsistent throughout the evening. Dishes arrived at different times, and one entrée was completely different from what had been ordered. That said, the food itself was very well prepared and genuinely delicious. The escargot and octopus appetizers were standouts and are absolutely worth recommending.
What happened afterwards, however, overshadowed the entire evening.
While waiting for dessert, I saw a rat scurry across the dining room floor toward the corner table near the entrance. Naturally, we were alarmed and immediately picked our bags up off the floor. We discreetly asked to speak with the manager, Maxim, because we genuinely felt the restaurant should be made aware immediately and given the opportunity to address the situation appropriately and quietly.
What shocked us even more than the rat itself was the response. There was no apology, no concern, and no sense of urgency. Instead, Maxim became defensive and raised his voice during the interaction. When I mentioned that I intended to share the experience publicly, he dismissively told me to “go right ahead” and implied that we were looking for a discount — something we neither requested nor hinted at. At that point, I simply paid the bill and left. No follow-up apology was offered for either the incident itself or the way the situation was handled.
A restaurant associated with the Birks name carries an expectation of professionalism, hospitality, and excellence. Sadly, the management response we experienced reflected none of those qualities. For context, our bill was north of $800 so it was not an inexpensive evening.
I did report the incident to the hotel’s night manager afterward and hope the matter is taken seriously. The food may be very good, but diners should be aware that the overall experience fell far below the standard one would reasonably expect from an establishment of this reputation. No food in the world is worth dealing with a manager such at Maxim or contracting the Hanta virus!
