Good but... I was hoping for a better gastronomical experience; we were a group of 5 so we shared all the plates on the menu. The beef tartare wasn't seasoned and had an overpowering ranch style sauce, the pork was a bit overcooked and the 2 fish dishes had a very similar sauce. It was all good but no wow from any of us..

I truly feel like I can't oversell this place. In my two visits so far, Salle has transformed my opinion of four different vegetables (for the record: leeks, chard, rutabaga and mature spinach).

Each dish I've had pairs one classic, simple aspect executed perfectly, and a surprising element.

For example, the leeks with two sunflower seed sauces, which were available both times I visited. Perfectly cooked, custardy leeks with a pair of sauces I never would have expected to be so balanced, smooth, yet distinctly flavored of sunflower seed.

Or the pork chop with chard and carrots; the pork chop itself was simple. Perfectly pan-cooked (I compared the texture to a low and slow prime rib) but accompanied by tender chard and an apple jus that was barely sweet, but so savory I was mopping up every drop with the house's lovely sourdough before letting that plate leave the table.

Other notable memories include a tartare that brought a tear to my eye, a poached pear and buckwheat cream that defied explanation, and a lovely non-alcoholic chamomile infused cranberry drink (though the wine selection is thoughtful and extensive in spite of Salle's small footprint).

The place is tiny, and the fact that I got a same-day dinner reservation still feels wrong to me. This feels like the kind of place with a waiting list, and if I had waited months instead of hours for this same meal, I would have been no less pleased.

Front and back of house staff were both friendly, happy to serve and talk with us. I left full, happy and enlightened, and I don't think you should leave Montreal without stopping by for the same treatment.

Fantastic meal and service. Killer wine selection as well. The playlist was on fire as well. I mean come on, My Bloody Valentine and PJ Harvey all in the same meal! What a time to be alive!

Easily one of the best restaurants in Montreal. I’ve been a handful of times now, and each visit somehow tops the last. The service is warm, unpretentious knowledgeable, and makes you feel at home the moment you walk in. The food and wine are consistently outstanding — it’s honestly impossible to pick a favorite dish without doing a disservice to the rest of the menu

I really enjoy the atmosphere in here. For my tastes, the music is just loud enough, the lights just dim enough, and the service was the right amount of attentive and laid back. The wine selection was fun and interesting. The food was good overall. The corn dish we tried was slightly underwhelming. The price point is slightly high but worthwhile.

We made our reservation two weeks in advance and arrived about 10 minutes late. The staff welcomed us with no stress, which we really appreciated. That said, please don’t be late—these people work hard and deserve respect for their professionalism.

From the start, everything felt well thought out: a choice of sparkling or still water, spotless cutlery, and a menu designed so your server can walk you through the details—resulting in top-notch service.

Food wasn’t our main focus for the evening, except for the beef tartare, which truly stood out. It was top quality and even reminded me a little of the tartare at White Rabbit in Moscow. The team also knows how to make custom cocktails, which was a pleasant surprise. We shared dessert, corn, and a few other dishes—good, simple, and well executed.

The room was a bit loud, but in the best way: lively and full of energy, yet somehow still cozy enough that you could almost sneak a small nap. We got exactly what we were looking for—three hard-earned hours of mini-holiday vibes—joking with our waiter and soaking in the atmosphere.

Small portions and simple ingredients done okay but not amazingly. Extremely rude male waiter with glasses who should learn better table manners.

What a delight it was to dine at this restaurant. Each dish was well balanced and simple yet high quality. The leeks in particular tasted soft and sweet. Who knew they could be so incredible?

It was very hot that day (30+) so the restaurant was similarly quite hot inside. We were provided with a fan to fan ourselves. The interior still managed to hold an inviting and warm atmosphere, but I would go again when it's not so hot!

An otherwise promising dining experience was overshadowed by inattentive, dismissive service that left us feeling disrespected and unwelcome.

We began the evening with three appetizers and one main course, hopeful that despite an initially unwelcoming atmosphere, the quality of the food might redeem the experience.

A male staff member with glasses approached our table and began clearing plates without first checking if we had finished. We mentioned that we had ordered bread and hoped to enjoy it with the remaining sauce from one of our appetizers. Rather than responding with courtesy, he chose to mock our comment. We let it slide.

Later, while waiting for our main course, we were discussing our next destination with a phone placed at the center of the table. He returned and, without a word, placed the main dish directly on top of our hands and phone. No apology, no acknowledgment. He then began explaining the dish in French, despite the fact that we had been conversing with him and the rest of the staff exclusively in English throughout the evening.

The interaction reflected a surprising lack of social awareness and professionalism, which affected our overall experience.

This experience was reflected in our tip. To which, our server later approached us to address it—condescendingly informing us that “in Quebec,” a 15% tip is customary and that, due to low wages, staff rely heavily on gratuities.

Having lived in Montreal for over a decade before recently relocating to Ontario, I can say with confidence that no Quebecer would feel compelled to tip 15% after being treated so poorly. But I do understand the assumption that, because we were speaking English, we must have been unfamiliar with local norms.

To the Salle Climatisée team: while a 15–20% tip is a widely accepted guideline, it remains at the guest’s discretion and is contingent on the quality of service. There are a number of negative reviews across your Google page, that closely reflect our experience with him. If this behavior has been brought up before, I hope management will consider how it impacts the guest experience and how it will inevitably be reflected in future tipping behavior.

The food was good—but regrettably, not worth the experience.

PSA: Adding to the irony, a restaurant named Salle Climatisée seemed to lack any effective air conditioning, leaving us physically and metaphorically uncomfortable throughout the evening.

My husband and I had such an enjoyable meal here. Brendan and his team were friendly, funny, attentive, and it was clear that they care so much about the food, the wine, and the guest experience. We sat at the bar which was great fun to watch the chefs at work and enjoy the bustling activity of the restaurant.
We shared a number of stellar dishes - leeks with two sunflower dressings, steak tartare, a warm corn dish, bread & butter, halibut from Gaspésie, and sticky carrot pudding. Each dish was delicious, with the halibut being a particular standout. It’s so nice that restaurants like this exist - where you can enjoy food that has been prepared with care and served with that same care and attention. We’ll be back the next time we’re in Montreal!
