Speak easy vibe. Good mixologists and knowledgeable staff. Worth going for a good cocktail.

Atmosphere: 7.5/10
Tucked away in Old Montreal, The Coldroom is a true speakeasy with an unmarked entrance and cellar-like vibe. The space feels like a wine cave meets cocktail den — casual and dim, with a long bar counter and multiple group seating areas. Music was slightly too loud, but still manageable for short conversations.

Drinks: 6/10
Recommendation: Sallerac
The menu is themed around a fictional 1970s Montreal rubber duck squat — playful, creative, and packed with personality. Each drink includes its flavor profile, ingredients, and glassware shape, making it easy to navigate. While the menu concept stands out, the drinks themselves fall a bit flat. Presentation is minimal, with no garnish, and the bar uses below-average glassware and no coasters.

Service: 8.5/10
Water was served on arrival. The team was friendly and attentive throughout. Prices are average for Montreal, with a balance between standard cocktails and more premium, exotic options that are fairly priced.

The cocktails are overpriced given the quantity! $30 for a cocktail excluding tax and excluding tips, no, but seriously?! ? This created awkwardness at the table because not everyone really could afford that kind of budget for a beer.
There are clandestine bars that are just as nice, with entertainment and much cheaper. This establishment confirms old town = tourist trap.

The place was tricky to found but thanks to someone’s review we found it. It’s a hidden gem in Montreal and an experience. Highly recommend going there.

cool secret bar, found it by accident (saw people standing in line at the bar next door, also stood in line, turned out that this was the entrance to the "coldroom", great atmosphere, nice and pleasant bartenders, helped to choose suitable drinks for each of my friends, fast service, you can take a jelly candy from the bar (a small thing but nice) the menu is quite large (only cocktails) there are a couple of non-alcoholic ones $ 13-15, all the rest start from $ 17, different strengths, to be honest there are small minuses: 1. stuffiness, we were sitting in the bar in the basement and it was too warm there, it felt like there was not enough fresh air. 2. the volume of the music is disproportionate to the area of the room, from which your ears and throat quickly begin to hurt, since it is difficult to communicate with the interlocutor when you can not hear yourself. But if this does not bother you, and you want to pleasantly end the evening, this place is ideal

We were those people who couldn't figure out how to get in! Finally saw a review with a picture of the door. The drinks were amazing, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxing drink after work. The architecture is gorgeous.

A unique experience at The Cold Room! As a true speakeasy, finding it was quite a challenge, which adds to its charm. The key is to look for a black door with an emergency exit sign featuring a rubber duck. Ring the bell and wait… it’s worth it! The cocktails were well-crafted, but what really impressed me was the extensive selection of whiskeys, especially Canadian ones. The place was spotless, very professional service, and although the prices are on the higher side, the quality makes up for it. Definitely a spot to return to!

When I arrived at the set address for a friend's birthday, I got lost and ended up in the smallest bar restaurant in Montreal! So one thing about The Coldroom, is that it maintains the essence of what it means to be a speakeasy! When we arrived, we were escorted to our seats by our server for the night, our server was quick, efficient and told us all we needed to know about speakeasy culture an the menu items for the night. I opted for a drink similar to a Bloody Mary and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The snacks on the other had were just okay. The atmosphere was lovely and it's definitely a place I would return to with friends!

Vegetarian options: Most products here are vegetarian friendly

Dietary restrictions: Some ingredients may contain gluten

Parking: This is near Old Port so your chances of finding parking are dependent on the time of day you choose to come.

Kid-friendliness: This is a Bar.

Wheelchair accessibility: Unfortunately, entrance to the bar requires going down stairs so accessibility would be tough.

Super cool space, service was okay (kind of “too cool or busy for you” vibes if I’m honest - not my favorite). Had a drink I loved and a drink I hated - hit and miss. Love the ducks!
