I will be honest was expecting better quality as the other common breakfast place but was disappointed nothing different than other places

Waiters looked friendly and welcoming, but the cleanness of the place in general is low. Tables (not even one) were dirty with glass stamps. So we made a conclusion not to try food there, unfortunately, in order to to get food poisoning

I’ve walked past this place for god knows how many years and never stopped, always assuming it was just an overpriced tourist trap because of its location. Today I decided to give it a shot—why not? It was around noon on a Friday, the terrasse was fairly empty, and we got seated right away with quick service.

First surprise: the prices. $13.50 for a 2 eggs and bacon breakfast?! Most spots in town are charging $18–19+ for that now, and often with mediocre quality. I went for the classic breakfast plus a piña colada (also very reasonably priced).

The food and drinks came within 10 minutes, and I was instantly impressed. Solid portions. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned and crispy, the bacon was thick and delicious, and the scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection. Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for better. Compared to places like Cora, where prices are sky-high for microwave bacon and tiny portions, Universel is a breath of fresh air. My drink was also excellent.

With everything in the city feeling insanely overpriced since COVID, Universel gave me hope. Great prices, great quality, and fast service—I’ll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Had our first meal in MTL here. The waiter inadvertently messed up my egg & cheese order. Thankfully, they fixed the egg order, but then I realized that the cheese was wrong, but didn't mention it. I would never order Swiss. I opted for the sausage curious as to what Canadian sausage was like. It was plain. My meal was okay. I found the potatoes mediocre. They need spice and salt as they come out the fryer.

My child enjoyed their crêpe, and my husband his Eggs Benedict. As far as ambiance goes, there's a great vibe to the place, and appears to be very LGBTQ+ friendly which is always welcome. Great prices.

Waited for over an hour for our food because our server didn't punch our order in for the kitchen. Spoke to the manager and all he did was comp our already included coffees, and he didn't even come back to our table to tell us this or apologize. During our long wait no one came by to refill our coffees or waters until after our waitress informed us the kitchen never received our order ~45 minutes after we ordered. They also made the eggs with one of our meals the wrong way, and the restaurant wasn't even busy. With 6 people and a $120+ bill, we are not satisfied with the service at all.

Our “go to” spot for breakfast or lunch!
Lots of options on both menus with generous portions.
The patio is or fav, with a rolled back awning, weather permitting. Satisfies the people watching, great food and exceptional service.
