Went in for a smoked meat sandwich and left very satisfied. Probably the best one I’ve ever had and the egg bread it was served on was delicious. The server was super friendly and a delight to chat to whilst I waited! 100% will return when next

Probably the best smoked meat sandwich I’ve had in this city. I devoured it in about 5 minutes on the front steps. Angel who was working at the counter is a lovely woman too, she came outside for a minute to chat and made me feel very welcomed.

A few steps from the intersection between Boulevard Saint-Michel and Rue Beaubien Est lies the now century-old Ukrainian delicatessen Zytynsky’s. Pierced simply by a door on the handle of which hangs a bell, its facade is a brick wall. One wonders why the architects of the time did not choose the option of embedding a bay there.A circular display at the top of which a haloed angel watches over displays products with names that are not very evocative for most of us, but very intriguing. How about a good Baygle bag? Or, a box of these famous Krowkowy? There is no doubt that they bring joy to a large community which finds many delights of another life there, as well as the multi-generational amenity which distinguishes the place and its owners. A woman with dark hair ending in a purple ponytail was excited about getting her hands on various slices of meat as she chatted with the owner's daughter, wielding the grinder with the confidence of experience. Their exchanges, peppered with jokes on family themes, bear witness to a relationship that has been forged over the years.I too feel in the mood for a little chat and I turn to the elderly lady in line behind me.- I heard you sigh. If you want, you can go ahead of me.- Oh ! No, I'm not in a hurry. I'm supposed to be retired.By his choice of the word “supposed”, I concluded that, hypothetically, Christmas preparations must be his responsibility this year. Finally came my turn and I took their European sandwich “the old-fashioned way”: slices of meat, mustard and cheese. The assistant clerk suggests that I leave with a box of date donuts, praising their general success. “I eat it all the time,” she added later.I am grateful to him, because the donuts are completely soft and tasty! The sandwich, on the other hand, makes for a very satisfying quick meal. However, through this charming visit to this venerable establishment, I acquired something more precious than good food: contentment in the heart.Vegetarian options: It's a delicatessen, but also a delicatessen with all kinds of snacks.Parking: A few places on Twelfth Avenue.Kid-friendliness: There are no seats, but there is candy.Wheelchair accessibility: A few steps to cross, little space inside to move around.

Great Eastern European deli. Angel makes the most delicious sandwiches. When I'm in the area, it's Zytnsky's for lunch.
