We went to an event nearby to have lunch but decided to stop here instead. We are so happy we did! Great service from a welcoming staff. We ordered beef tacos and the chicken taco bowl. The food was fresh and delicious. Not spicy and served with mild or hot sauce on the side for you to add. The atmosphere is comfortable, bright and welcoming. We can't wait to come back. The food and service turned out road trip into a happy afternoon.

So this is the first California Taco Shop I’ve had to write a not so good review about. We came in July 24 @4:56pm. My review is not about the food, but about the service my mom and I received. When we entered, no greeting and the person taking our order (Yoselin) was not friendly at all. We were given salsa for the table and after tasting it, we didn’t like it at all. We’ve had good salsa, that just wasn’t good. So I saw some on the counter and we figured we’d try those. When the waitress came back, she seemed irritated that we did. I told her we just wanted to try them. I didn’t want to be mean and say the salsa wasn’t good, but anyway it was obvious she was not happy we did that. She then proceeded to take all the salsa and put it away. Whatever, fine. I’m sorry if we weren’t supposed to touch it, but at the end of the day, not really a big deal. I’ve been in customer service, so when she saw we took it, she could’ve just simply said, “I’m sorry but we’ll have to charge extra for that”. Again, not a big deal and that would’ve been the professional thing to do. I knew I was going to pay something for it, because she definitely let us know she wasn’t happy. When I paid, we were charged 1.99 for two of them. It’s a little steep but maybe she’s trying to send a message. That was obvious because the other girl with her was laughing. I guess we were caught:)) I’m not gonna fight about $4, I don’t care about that. What I’m less than impressed with is the customer service. Maybe she was having a bad day, but that’s not my problem. You’re in customer service. I think they could take a lesson from the young man in the Cranston location. I wish I would’ve had his name. He’s awesome!

As a born & raised San Diegan trapped in Connecticut, I’m a snob when it comes to Mexican food. I happened to be in Johnston on business when I noticed California Taco Shop.
Of course I turned my nose up & said “ha! That’s funny.” But like anybody on their high horse, I had to try it.
I got the California burrito, 5 rolled tacos, & a horchata.
The horchata was SPOT ON! I thought I was back home for a minute & not in Rhode Island. The California burrito was quite good, & quite stuffed. But not just with filler. With FLAVOR!
The rolled tacos were a little shorter than back home, but the flavor more than made up for it (& again, just comparing it to what I grew up on
I dug the decor & the music in the background. Reminded me of weekends at the National City Swap Meet.
It’s about an hour-fifty from my house, but I’ll be back!

I gotta say portion is good. Food is delicious. Service was fast and courteous. I ate at this place twice this week. Quesobirrias were fire! And Bistec encebollado was on point.
Im going to miss this spot!
Parking: Parking is accesible if the place us empty. Otherwise you have to go around and walk a little

Part of the order had four hard tacos. 2 were incorrect. I called to see if I could have the correct items made. They passed the phone to various people to the point it wasn’t worth trying to correct the order after explaining the situation 4 times.
