Based on recent reviews, Umami Buffet offers a great variety of food with a vast selection of entrees, including sushi, seafood, noodles, fried rice, dumplings, fried chicken, Mac and cheese, pizza, apple pie, and soup. The sushi was fresh and the chef kept putting them out. The seafood, especially the snow crab legs, was a standout. Some food was described as cold, tough, and dry, with ribs being dry and ragoons having hard dough. However, on some visits the food was hot, ready, and fresh, described as better tasting than any previous Chinese buffet experience. The service was nice, with an attentive and kind waitress. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly. The buffet has ice cream and pudding for dessert, though options were a bit limited. There is plenty of free parking available. Weekday lunch is $15 and dinner is around $20. It was considered one of the best buffet restaurants in Rhode Island, a great spot near Newport for variety, quality, and value.
