Suprised that the server didn't know much about the oyster selection, she was pleasant though and they did time the food right for the kids.
Jess the server was awesome... but food and drink were just ok... crusted halibut ok...oysters were average and served in watery ice...martinis were not chilled, no ice crystals on the top of drink; probably stirred, not shaken...
All 5 of us thought the food was very bland and under seasoned. Scallops were tasteless and grits were bland and watery. Same with the fish dishes. Our waitress was lovely. We told her everything was great as it wasn't her fault but we won't be back.
Service was exceptionally slow and it was not crowded. It took a solid hour for anything to arrive. Dishes and water glasses were dirty. Check was incorrect. Noise level was so loud, despite there only being two tables in our area, we had to shout to attempt light conversation. Server was inattentive. Many menu items were unavailable. Dishes were being cleared as we were still eating even though we were well within our allotted time frame. Overall, very disappointing. The food was delicious, but unfortunately the cons outweigh the pros.
Great new seafood place in the heart of town on Thames. Food was delicious, with abundant fresh seafood options. Tried here instead of The Mooring for a change and we frankly liked the quality of the food better. Sat on upper outdoor patio which was beautiful and cool with the cross breeze despite the summer heatwave. Service was a bit spotty and could use more care and attention to the details, but all around an enjoyable evening for our family.
We spent $950 Christmas Eve for mediocre food at best and terrible service. We had 5:30pm reservations for 12 people and on the phone they said they served until 8pm, after we were seated the waitress informed us the kitchen closes at 6pm so order quickly. It was all downhill from there. Food was mediocre at best, the tuna poke bowl had absolutely no flavor, chicken was dry, steak was flavorless, everything was rushed, no salt and pepper on the table, no ketchup or other sauces, no bread or crackers. The bar closed early and we didn’t have time to order bottles of wine so we did save another few hundred dollars on drinks. The waitress was more busy doing side work than waiting on us (left her a $150 tip) Granted it was Christmas Eve and they all wanted to leave but tell us that before we made the reservation. Maybe a fluke, but Too many other great restaurants in Newport to try instead of risking it again here.
We went to hear the band (our relatives) we couldn't get food and we were hungry and looking forward to eat....

The pan seared halibut was so overcooked it was tough. I’m surprised they let the plate leave the kitchen.

During the summer months this place becomes VERY packed. We came on the off-season and was excited to try some food and get a drink or two, been dying to come here for years. We were one of maybe 3 or 4 tables at the time.
The atmosphere was wonderful and a nice relief to the chilling air that was picking up. Very cozy.
The server and host were very nice. However, the food was very overpriced and you are buying for the atmosphere and location.
The first item we got was oyster ceviche. For $18 we were expecting a small bowl with maybe 5/6 oysters chopped up with traditional ceviche ingredients like jalapeños, cilantro, and lime juice that as been marinated for sometime. Instead, we got four half oysters with maybe a teaspoon off raw jalapeño and carrots divided between them. The veggies were hard which took away from the oysters and it just tasted like raw carrots. We did not get any lemons or lime or hot sauce, and we couldn’t ask because the server didn’t come back until much later. In hindsight it would have been better to save the 5$ and just get the raw oysters.
Our second app was delicious and we had no issues with it.
Then our main course came out, the seafood pasta. It was okay. Not bad, but for 32$ish I wish it had a bit more pasta or even some dipping bread. Just something cheap to fill up on and help with the broth that remains. As it was, it was pretty unsatisfying , especially after walking all day.
They also wanted to charge $20 for what is essentially a cadillac Margarita which you could get for around $15 at most other restaurants.
Overall, for the price it was very lackluster. I wouldn’t advise anyone not to eat here but just be aware that you can get better food and portions for a better price if you are willing to go a bit more inland.
