Excellent meal! Chicken drumstick was my favorite! Menu is a bit confusing but wait staff really help to lay it out. Really comprehensive wine list and cocktail options.

DO NOT come to this "American restaurant" if you want a racist experience. My partner and I (both asian) had a reservation at Persimmon in Rhode Island for 9:00 PM. I arrived slightly early, at 8:53 PM, and was seated around 8:55 PM. The host never mentioned that my partner arriving later would cause any issues, so I assumed everything was fine. My partner arrived around 9:30 PM, which should not have impacted the quality of service, especially since the restaurant chose to seat me early without any concerns at first. After I sat down, our server (a middle-aged white male) did not come to check in for almost 20 minutes. He didn’t ask if I wanted a drink, if I preferred to wait until my partner is here to order, or if I needed anything at all. I was simply left sitting there, which felt inattentive and very unprofessional. Later, when we were ready to order dessert and needed the server’s attention, my partner gave a small wave because our table was next to a corner and with consideration I was left alone for 20 mins before we ordered (we were trying to make eye contact with the server but the restaurant is dark, and he never looked at this direction). Instead of responding calmly, the server said loudly, “Do NOT do that. That is rude. This is an American restaurant. You should never do that here.” The comment was unnecessary, embarrassing, and felt culturally insensitive. As a young Asian couple, this interaction made us feel singled out in a way that was uncomfortable and discouraging. When we spoke to the manager, he focused repeatedly on the fact that I arrived early and my partner was late, as if this explained or justified the server’s tone, the public reprimand, or the comment about it being an “American restaurant.” My partner apologized for waving at him, and he even apologized for being late today, something that is between us as a couple, not with the restaurant, but the core concerns about the server’s behavior were not never acknowledged. I even asked the manager directly how we were supposed to get a server’s attention if a polite wave is considered unacceptable. Instead of providing an answer, he changed the subject to what we want, which is totally irrelevant and not addressing the problem. After we expressed how the situation made us feel, including the racial undertones of the interaction, the manager eventually said he would take care of the bill. We still did not receive a direct apology from the server himself, the person who created the issue. Overall, we left feeling dismissed and uncomfortable. It was disappointing to have this experience at a well-known restaurant, and I honestly did not expect something like this to happen in Rhode Island in 2025.
Great food, friendly staff, very affordable.

We had a really awesome experience here for our fifth anniversary! Our server Alex F went over the menu in detail and explained every item that could potentially meet our vegetarian and pescatarian dietary needs. We really enjoyed the food and drinks that we had. It was really a great place to celebrate when they added an extra touch for our dessert. Highly recommended, especially if you have a special dietary need since they're super careful and thorough here with that.

The most wonderful part of our dining experience at Persimmon was our waiter, Alex. He was so warm, gave a concise, sweeping explanation of the menu, executed seamless service with perfectly timed courses, and just added immeasurably to our evening's celebration. He also helped us choose the perfect wine, a Cabernet Franc from the Finger Lakes region, to enjoy across a range of courses, decanted the bottle, and was there to refill glasses as needed.
We started with 2 beautifully made Manhattans. We ordered and shared the following in this sequence: the Croquetas, the bread service, the Black Spaghetti, the beef tenderloin over potato pancakes with a ragout of mushrooms, a beautiful salad, Stilton with laminated brioche, and an Apple tart tatin. We also had espresso and cappuccino.
Our favorite courses were the Croquetas, the Black spaghetti, and the Little Gems salad.
We were underwhelmed with the bread, the brioche, the Tenderloin, and the Apple Tart.
Overall, the night still felt wonderful because of our waiter, and his attention to detail.

Loved this place! I'm not sure how I've never been here before! Shared lots of plates... they are not tiny and very shareable. Could not pick a favorite! Service was great, we weren't rushed at all. Cocktails were yummy, wine was reasonable. I can see why reservations fill up. Can't wait to return!

While the food was delicious, we felt rushed. Our dinner arrived while we were still eating our appetizers. We ordered a desert that the menu indicated would take twenty minutes to prepare that arrived at our table within minutes. Obviously it had been pre-prepared or was meant for another customer. The whole experience felt poorly coordinated.

Michelin, where are you?
When I went to Persimmon on Hope St, for real I started to tear up when I put the first bite of duck in my mouth, it was so yummy... and dessert was also amazing. I think it was Michelin two or three star worthy, but Michelin doesn't have enough staff to cover RI!
