For years I was a weekly customer of This establishment. I chose not return due to a very bad experience I had with a violent customer that took place just over a year ago. Today I decided my family would give it another try. I felt that enough time had passed that we could feel safe here. Unfortunately this place still sings the same tune.
We were denied service by a young man claiming to be the General Manager despite the rest of our local community accepting us so openly.
I’m coming back to add that a year ago I was told as the victim of an attack I would still be able to return. I have the entire conversation recorded as it was quite the serious matter. It seems that the Manager has forgotten our conversation and denied service to my family in retaliation to a Nextdoor post I made recollecting the events and asking for community help on identifying the perpetrator.

Will NEVER go back again. Outside bar was full. Went inside to sit at the bar. There was two open chairs so I kindly asked the two people on the other sides of the chairs if they were open (they were) so I sat down. Within seconds the bartender immediately starting barking at me to get out I couldn't have an animal in there etc etc she said she needed to see the animal and I needed to get out... Um what dog?!?! She was practically screaming at me. I walked out.
I have been there dozens of times and never had an issue. But this was just straight discrimination and disrespect from this woman that I will never bring my business back there ever again.

First time there and we found an empty table outside. Waitress came over got our order. It came out quick. We got Crab Corn Chowder which was thick and creamy. Also got a Grouper Wrap with Fries and they were both very good. Great flavor wrap and crispy fries. We had no trouble parking but the lot is not huge. Service was fine but we had to grab someone to cash out.

There were four of us stopping by mid-afternoon on our way to Hilton Head Island from Charlotte. We were early for our check-in and breakfast was a long ways back in the rear-view.
I chose the Oakatie Ale House based solely on the reviews on Google.
As far as “Ale Houses”, go it is OK. The beer menu isn’t very extensive at all. They feature the usual domestic suspects and a handful of craft beers. If you drink beer, you’ll find something. Full bar.
The menu has a good variety of food choices although I can’t speak for vegan or gluten-free since I don’t pay attention things.
On order: Macadamia Crusted Chicken Salad, Meatball Parmesan, Ale Houses Burger, and The Godfather.
Everyone said their food was delicious and would order again except for me. I had the Meatball Parmesan sandwich: Homemade meatballs smothered in fresh marinara and mozzarella cheese served on an Amaroso Roll.
I really don’t know what an Amaroso Roll is but is is soft and spongy with a nice taste. The meatballs were good and the mozzarella cheese acceptable. Where the sandwich failed was in the sauce. The marinara sauce was ordinary it just wasn’t saucy enough. There simply wasn’t enough ladled onto the sandwich.
I essentially ate a sandwich with meatballs and cheese. I don’t recommend the Meatball Parmesan at all. Even with more sauce, I question whether the marinara sauce’s flavor can bring this one home.
Service was good to begin with, but at the end of the meal, and after the server had dropped the check, it took a minute for her to arrive to pick it up.
For the HHI area, lunch prices seemed reasonable.
The ambience is fine. The place seems to cater to the nearby Sun City retirement community, but that is just an impression on one visit.
I go back again because the menu has enough variety that there has to be other things that I would enjoy. I just won’t be ordering the Meatball Parmesan again.

Update: We went back a second time and sat inside, we LOVED the vibe inside. Very warm and friendly. Has a very local vibe. Food was standard American fare, nothing to rave about but just good solid basic dishes.

We are new to the area and this place is always packed so we wanted to give it a go. The food is basic American style go-tos with a few local things thrown in.
The vibe was fun and felt very local. I thought we’d be able to hear the traffic on 278 but it wasn’t bad at all (we sat outside).
We didn't love the waitress we had the first time but I've updated our experience above!
