Great cold brew, nice atmosphere. Quiet and comfortable. The employees were nice and efficient. They have an array of different coffee blends to choose from and I haven't tried one that I don't like. I prefer my coffee black as well.

Cute spot that's worth searching out. Comfortable, sunny, free WiFi, friendly and skilled staff. Our barista recommended several options and we chose a honey lavender latte that was perfection. My friend had a special request and they were move than happy to accommodate. Nice selection of non coffee options and baked goods (nothing gluten free on our visit but looked great!) with plenty of easy parking up front. We will be back.

The waffles, y'all, the waffles. Gluten free and amazing. My daughter and I split the lox and cucumber and the lemon blueberry and we couldn't believe how delightful they were. Friendly service and good food. This made our morning!

Very cute and cozy coffee shop. I frequent the one in West Ashley where the baristas make excellent cups of coffees and have great seasonal drinks. So far I loved the fall sweet potatoe latte and now the winter special of peppermint mocha. Their coffee art is on point!

I checked out Second State while visiting Charleston recently and it was quite good! I don’t have many complaints about the iced latte that I got - you can tell they use high-quality beans here, and it satisfied my craving for a coffee drink, that’s for sure! For a regular iced latte (with some orange syrup that I added), I was happy with it.I was honestly pretty disappointed, though, because I had seen pictures of their menu from other people on Google Maps, and it looked like they had some super unique specials. I always LOVE the more unique coffee creations these places come up with, so when I came in and asked what their specials were, they didn’t really have anything like the pictures showed. They just said they stopped these types of drinks a few years ago and all they could do was “add an orange syrup to my drink”, for instance. That was a big let-down. I feel as though if I’m gonna go all the way to a coffee shop and spend a decent amount of money for a drink, it needs to be worth it and not just a standard cup of coffee - it should be something I can’t easily make at home! So I don’t understand why this place would stop their creative drink options, but I hope it’s something they consider doing again! Huge missed opportunity there!!Other than that, the actual coffee itself is really good, so that’s why I’ve still given a good rating. If they add a few more creative drinks on the menu, while still maintaining the quality of coffee they offer, this would easily be a 10/10 coffee shop that I could recommend to anyone visiting Charleston!
