Johnathan was incredible. His knowledge and delivery of the dishes was an experience in itself. The gnocchi was the best I’ve ever had. Not your typical hard potato gnocchi but a melt in your mouth chewy delight.

What a great dining experience while visiting Charleston. Food, service and ambience is terrific. Worth the visit while in Charleston.
During my quick visit the Charleston, I was on the hunt for oysters served in a very unique way. FIG exceeded my expectations with their Broiled Steamboat Creek Oysters. Words cannot explain this small plate. Highly recommend & if you have the pleasure of meeting the bartender, Ian, you are in for a treat for true southern hospitality.

Fig is an OG of the Charleston foodie scene and a bar for which all others are judged. Went nearly a decade ago and remember nothing. Not sure how much has changed but doesn’t matter. Worth going!
Started with the Tom-tini - a martini made with tomatoes which sounds odd and it serves bright pink. Ultra smooth, and the tomato effect ads an Umami quality.
starters - the ricotta gnocchi and the tomato tarte. Both if these items we were referred by multiple people and the server. The gnocchi is cloud-like light and fluffy, yet rich. Indulgent. The tomato tarte tastes nothing of how it looks. Its incredibly savory and smooth. The puff pastry underneath delivers an oh-so satisfying crunch.
Mains - Flounder and chicken. Flounder had a brioche crust on top and was a very light, delicate dish. My wife hates seafood and she demanded to trade plates for this and finished every bite. That in of itself tells you this is an exquisitely executed fish dish.
The chicken is finished in a hearty broth topped with tomato. Ive never had such a “hearty” chicken dish.
Side of mash - this is must.
Dessert - sorghum pudding that eats like a sticky toffee pudding
All in all, Fig doesn’t have the “pizzaz” of some newer spots but it remains the bar for which all others are to be judged. That probably wont change anytime soon.
Vegetarian options: Menu covers all bases, not large but something for everyone
Dietary restrictions: They will consult with you to meet your needs
Parking: None, but a few parking lots available in walking distance. If staying downtown consider a ride share
Kid-friendliness: Fairly open layout in the back, but a fine dining spot. Not the best for toddlers and younger
Wheelchair accessibility: All 1 floor, no stairs

Ambiance is very nice. An electric feeling, while not too loud.
The food is good. Not great. Worth going once, check it off. Service is lacking for the price point.
The skillet okra is great. The “mashed” potatoes are whipped. Nothing special. They have a consistency of elevated instant potatoes. Enjoy the visit but don’t expect to be blown away. It’s good and that’s about it.
Dietary restrictions: Pescatarian.

Went to the Stephen Colbert show and he called this his favorite restaurant in Charleston. My waiter, I'm so sorry, I can't remember your name but he's from Georgia, he was very sweet, very attentive and informative and a great conversationalist. The fresh fig app plate was so good, my husband enjoyed the oysters although I wish I was allowed to take the shells home as a souvenir. They were so pristinely cleaned and I wanted a souvenir from Stephen Colbert's favorite restaurant. The gnocchi was so comforting and rich, probably the best gnocchi I've had to date. My husband enjoyed his fish dish, he's not into food like I am but he enjoyed it. I do not like fish but I have to say, it was the least fishy fish I've ever had. I'd still take my grandfather's rock fish to it tho, as a none fish eater, take that with a grain of salt. The mashed potatoes that everyone raves about, while good, I've had better from home cooked meals or at soul food spots. If you like botanicals and fruit notes try that ultraviolet drink. It's 17 damn dollars but I don't regret trying it. For dessert I had the sorghum toffee pudding. Have to say the star was that amaretto ice cream and I'm not even a walnut fan but I enjoyed the almond walnut mix. Walnuts tend to go piney for me but these did not. My awesome waiter suspected it's the roasting of them. The Brits do the pudding and toffee a little better, sorry chef. Was cool to try a local take on a classic tho. Overall, I found the atmosphere a little boujee for my taste but the wait staff at the door, my waiter and the bus girl that didn't take my shells and laughed with me about not understanding the silverware order helped to level that out a little. Apparently, the shell is a living organism lol I thought the animal that was being eaten was the living organism but I guess what's alive is always up for debate. She was just doing what she thought she had to, I'm not mad at her, it's the environment she's in.
So, it was an experience, I'd say give it a try if you can afford the treat. I'll be trying Stephen's second choice on Sullivan's Island next time, the man seems to have a decent palete.

Fig did not live up to the hype. My group of 6 arrived for a birthday dinner. We had an 8pm reservation, but our table was not ready when we arrived. We were seated around 8:15-8:20pm.
I ordered the Wagyu Steak Tartare as a starter, which was good but not outstanding like others I’ve had. I had the White Shrimp + Spaghetti as my meal, and the shrimp was overcooked.
The service was incredibly slow. After delays in being seated, delays in ordering our food, and what felt like an eternity to get our checks when we were clearly ready to go, the entire time at the restaurant was almost 3 hours. It felt incredibly drawn out.
Especially for the price $$$, I expected to have a much better dining experience.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. I stopped in for dinner during a business trip last week. Snagged a seat at the bar without waiting. My server, Ian, was exceptional. Obviously he makes drinks as a bartender, but he knew the menu front to back in deep detail, so much so that I asked him to choose my courses for dinner. After the cabbage salad, he brought out crudo, gnocchi with lamb bolognese, and the tomato tarte. Each outstanding. Had a nice mocktail and dessert as well.

What an exquisite place! The sign at the front stated that FIG = Food Is Good. At this place? It certainly is! Our server (Dana) was very knowledgeable of the history of the dishes, and drinks that paired well with them. They do have a sommelier available to assist in selecting appropriate wines to coordinate with meals. We opted for the well-reviewed ricotta gnocchi. It definitely has earned its reputation, with its silky texture and pillow softness. The bluefin crudo was also light and a nice palate cleanser for our next course. Our mains consisted of the wagyu dish and the bouillabaisse. The wagyu was fork tender (cooked medium rare), and the bouillabaisse was bright and full of flavor. We were way too full to have dessert, but if we were to return, we would need to try the sticky sorghum pudding with walnuts and amaretto ice cream. See you next time, FIG!
