The place it's nice although the habachi show it's amazing the steak sometimes it's overcooked (even if you ask for a medium rare)

From the moment we walked through the doors, we were completely captivated by the atmosphere. The incredible hospitality, exciting energy, and welcoming staff immediately made us feel like we were part of a celebration. You can instantly understand why Hachiya Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse has become one of the most popular restaurants in Charleston.

We arrived right at 4:00 PM when they opened, and within just 30 minutes the restaurant was already filling up. By around 6:00 PM, every hibachi table was full, and guests were waiting in the lobby. Reservations are absolutely recommended, even on weekdays.

Throughout the evening, we saw birthday celebrations, anniversaries, family dinners, and friends gathering together. The restaurant was full of laughter, applause, and excitement. The atmosphere was unlike any ordinary restaurant—it truly felt like a celebration.

This visit, I sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed the Chef’s Omakase. Every course featured incredibly fresh seafood, beautiful presentation, and outstanding craftsmanship. It was an unforgettable sushi experience.

The service was exceptional from beginning to end. Every staff member was friendly, professional, and genuinely cared about making every guest feel welcome.

One moment I’ll never forget happened after dinner. While talking in the parking lot, I watched guests leave the restaurant one after another—and every single person was smiling. That says everything about the experience Hachiya creates.

This place was fantastic! Very cool and clean interior, and the staff were amazing. I would request to have J-Pert as your grill chef and would seriously wait until he’s free if he’s not free. He was hilarious and had us belly laughing the whole time, all while the food was incredible. Will absolutely be back!

I had a wonderful experience tonight. The Chef was skilled and the food came out amazing. It was My Fiancee's birthday and She was so excited by the staffs enthusiasm. Ari I believe ? Our server Ari(e) was so stinking sweet and attentive. She knew how to match vibes and was knowledgeable about the menu. This restaurant is an every blue moon visit, and it’s so nice to see the same people and be remembered, as well as the quality of the food staying the superb! Great team of servers on the sushi bar side. And again, the food never disappoints ❤️ I would suggest a reservation, but we walked in and waited maybe 15 minutes.

This review is for the sushi bar portion of the restaurant; if you are only interested in the hibachi experience, you can probably disregard this, but if you are looking for a good place to go for sushi, look elsewhere!

We have been here several times over the past few years – the kids liked it mostly because of the silly hats they used to give out, and the quality of the fish has always been decent, but there are too many negatives pointing to poor management choices:

The waiting area at the entrance is right next to the sushi bar and because they have not bothered to develop another system for letting people know when their table is ready, you get to listen to the hostesses frequently and loudly yelling names throughout the meal.

We discovered tonight that someone decided it would be a good idea to use a strong-smelling disinfectant spray to clean tables right next to folks eating sushi.

And although we were there for the sushi, the final straw was how incredibly they’d overcooked the shrimp in the hibachi meal one of the folks in our party ordered; guess they are also scraping the bottom of the barrel for line cooks...
