“We absolutely LOVE this place. We have always eaten at the bar in the tavern area and have no interest in sitting elsewhere. We discovered Lowland a while ago and it is now our most favorite food spot in Charleston. The drinks are outstanding, the service is excellent and the food is divine. The food is fresh, the flavors are unique and the recipes highlight authentic lowland food. This latest visit we tried the celery salad, the burger a the biscuit with a red pepper jelly and potted cheese. The celery salad was simple yet AMAZING. Simple blanched celery with chopped mint and some incredible white cheddar cheese from Wisconsin. I eat burgers almost everywhere I go but this one is truly THE BEST. The meat was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked and the perfect size!!! Wish I remembered our bartenders name but he was GREAT on a Sunday night. Cannot wait to go back next month and bring our son who will visit from London!!“

“I found out about Southbound, through my job. I had to go do some work there, and found the owner and everyone there, super friendly. Most people at restaurants ignore working people while they are there. As my 42nd anniversary was quickly approaching, I decided to give this place a try. Some of my past picks, have not been the best. Southbound cleared EVERY hurdle I have about restaurants. From the moment we approached the restaurant, great service began! While coming thru the gate, the hostess yelled out, "HEY LARRY" and then said, "This must be your beautiful wife"! Like CHEERS, it felt great to go somewhere, "Where everybody knows your name" We were seated and got to view the open fire oven. I had dropped off 42 roses the week before for them to put on our table, for my wife. Tropical storm Debbie, and downtown flooding prevented us from going exactly on our anniversary. I was worried that store bought roses, would not last thru the weeklong delay, Joel assured me everything would be taken care of, and not to worry. As we were seated, there on the table, sat 42 roses. Fresh, and arranged with baby breath flowers included. I was told the young lady with the hostess had arranged them. They were gorgeous! They also had an anniversary card on the table from them, not something I had dropped off. The service was tremendous, the food indescribably outstanding! I have only had steak Tar Tar once before in my life, and was greatly afraid to try it again, as the first time was awful. It was superb! They take great pride in the presentation of their food products. I felt like I was in an episode of Master Chef. We had the steak, as well as the Sea bass, okra, corn, sweet potatoes, and the Caramel cake. Everything absolutely wonderful! This was a truly wonderful and memorable dining experience!! I would give 100 stars, and a Siskel and Ebert two thumbs up! There was only one thing I was disappointed about. No sweet tea! Were In Charleston SC, no sweet tea. Everything else totally made up for it though. The staff even had everyone present sign a menu, wishing us a happy anniversry1 I will most definatly go there again for a special occasion. Thanks to Andrew, Joel, and the entire staff, for making this night special!!“

She knew we wanted to share an entrée and had it beautifully plated on two separate dishes without us even asking (a small touch that made a big impact).

But the highlight? Karla surprised us with a complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary, and it was genuinely one of the sweetest, most thoughtful gestures we’ve had while dining out.

Paige is so great to work with and was on top of it every step of the way; highly recommend using this venue if you have a smaller group and wanted to have amazing views of the marina.“

“This place is so fancy! This is definitely a place for a special hangout. The ambiance and photo opportunities are endless. The restaurant is intentionally decorated and the outdoor space is even better. Our server and the staff were top notch and they made our night special. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Now let’s talk about the food.
1.We had the truffle fries: 7/10 because they were cold.
2. Smoked Sorghum BBQ Sauce Wings: 7/10 Because they tasted like buffalo wings. No BBQ in sight but they were cooked well and temperature was ok.
3.Bacon and Fig Flatbread: 7/10. The toppings and flavor was good. I do not think the crust was flatbread. It was very hard(not crispy) and a little thicker than flatbread.
4. Shrimp Scampi: 6/10. The flavor was fine but the portion of shrimp was small and also the size of the shrimp. I think I expected fresh shrimp but it was more of like the farm raised bag shrimp from a local grocery store.

In summary The place is a must try and I would definitely go back for the ambiance and grab a drink.❤️“

Everything else on the table held its own - crack potatoes lived up to their name, the deviled eggs were basically showing off, and the cocktails? Let’s just say their bourbon lineup could convince a Pentecostal to consider converting to Catholicism. The presentation was on point, too. It’s the kind of place where even the side dishes look better than I do in unfiltered photos.. Ambience-wise, picture a nightclub circa 2006 where velvet met gold, blue lighting was the vibe, and every bartender is a “master of their craft” (and will happily let you know). It’s moody, glam, and just the right amount of extra. 10/10 would come back, mostly to apologize to the ravioli for not meeting it sooner.“
