The food was excellent and the first server that started us out with drinks was awesome. Then we had a different server take over our party and he was not attentive at all. We tried to get his attention and he said to me…I see you! 😡It ruined the atmosphere of the place after that. We soon got the first server back. Never had a server be so rude.
There are places that reap the benefits of a majestic view which The Boathouse has in spades. But the sum of our experience on the evening is greater than the part about the majestic view. Billy, the bartender, could dazzle royalty with his perfect concoctions. Ryan, our waiter, personifies Southern charm. Did I mention the view? Never at a loss for words, always happy to engage in conversation, I wanted only on this evening to watch the wonders of nature framed on the screened porch. The innocent peach of the sunset contrasted with crimson highlights, resting on shimmering blue grey water. Birds in flight. Birds diving for food. Fishermen coming home. Guiding their sea worn boats in with the day's catch. Did I mention the appetizers? Who makes hushuppies that would hush the most ravenous appetite? That you can't stop eating if you weren't even hungry? The Boathouse. Pickled okra fried? Yes mam. And it was delicious. Lobster tails that transported me to a Maine vacation I cherish. Shrimp and grits. Buttery fresh green beans and asparagus. And oh, that key lime pie. But just the preparation, the presentation, the taste, the view, would not cause me to give 5 stars. Without the service. The boathouse has my heart. My loyalty. Because of the service. Don't miss it. The sun rises and sets for this gem of a restaurant.
Food great, service great, prices reasonable. My gin and tonic was very small and I didn't taste the gin. If my cocktail had been generous it would have been a near perfect experience.
Very nice setting. Valet parking was excllent. Food was spot on and bartender knows how to make a cocktail!!
Boathouse offers a great selection of drinks, apps, entrees and desserts. Service was wonderful and the atmosphere was welcoming. It is the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the water. Highly recommend!! Another perk: complimentary valet parking.
Fun to enjoy a drink before dinner in the casual rooftop bar either views of the bay. We enjoyed appetizers including calamari, hush puppies and fried okra. Dinner was great two with shrimp and fries, the chefs trio, petite filet and halibut and mashed potatoes. Our server Brian was attentive and friendly. A great evening!
Had to wait an extended period for a reservation due to understaffing. However, they continue to sell reservations every 15 minutes and place tables on top of each other. On a positive note, the food was good but will probably be our last visit.
Brandon took great care of us! Our food was delicious, and the sunset views from the outdoor bar seating are breath taking!
Server was too aggressive, bringing our drinks and rushing us to take our orders. She kept coming back each minute. Not very relaxing. She could have said “enjoy your drinks, I'll be back.” And the salads came, then the main dishes before they cleared the salad dishes, not very professional. We had to move our salad dishes to make room, and they still left the salad dishes on the table. Sangria was in too small a glass. Should be bigger and bolder, too bubbly, not enough fruit. Nice view, but food was just ok. A lot of fried food. Not enough healthy interesting choices. Sauce should be in the side not smeared over the fish. House salad w balsamic dressing was excellent though, best part of the meal.
Brandon was a good server.. Blackened scallops and hush puppies were great. Wish I had brought a sweater as it was a bit cold indoors

We vacation at Isle of Palms every summer. We have eaten at Boathouse before, but never been seated in the additional portion of seating by the parking lot. We made reservations in advance. Our table of four was 2 feet from 2 tables of 2 and 2 feet from one party of 8. I notified our server that we we were not happy with our seating and she was not able to offer any other accommodations. All the blinds were shut - no view of any ocean water .. conversations were not private. I had to put my pocket book on the floor as the hard wooden chairs had curved backs and would not hold it - plus the server kept brushing by my chair. For the amount of money of the food, this was not an ideal evening out. My fried shrimp was fine. The hush puppies were not good, crumbly. French fries and pimento grits were good, Mac and cheese was nothing special and unseasoned. I have eaten there in the fall several times- when you can sit low (not heated or cooled) by the water. That is preferable.
Despite a reservation, we were not seated on time. We were seated outside at a back corner table, practically in the kitchen. The food was mediocre at best. The server did not know the menu. Appetizers came out on time. An hour later we still hadn't gotten our entrees so we left. The management made no effort to compensate us, only saying “it's busy season.”
As charleston locals, we don't typically make our way over to the "beach" restaurants, espeically during peak season. We are SO glad we went to Boathouse this weekend as everything was fantastic. Our server Trinity was an absolute delight - perfectly attentive but not overbearing and just a lovely woman. The food was done to perfection. I had a wreckfish special with a coconut curry sauce that was the ultimate balance of spicy and sweet and my husband had the butter poached scallops on the menu which were cooked perfectly and the risotto was out of this world. It's so nice to see a place that could rely on single time tourist traffic really step it up with great food, great service and overall just a great experience!
We always enjoy dinner at the Boat House, especially the local Swordfish. Our waitress Trinity was outstanding!
Outstanding food and service! Never disappoints and we've been dining here for 25 years. Love the additional seating at the Inlet Bar and additional seating outside for sunset watching. The valet parking team is absolutely first class! Incredible hustle!
