We arrived when it opened without a reservation, and was quickly sat for a party of 4. We ordered the fried fish bites as an appetizer and it was delicious 🤤 and the sauce on the side was to die for. I could just order that as my meal and a side salad and would've been satisfied. My son got the kids fried shrimp and fries and ate it all up, my daughter ordered the Bomber shrimp for her meal and was impressed with how flavorful it was. My husband ordered the blackened Mahi Mahi with an add on of scallops and said it was the best meal he's had in MB thus far. The atmosphere was great, the staff was friendly and the food was 10/10. Would come again!

This restaurant’s food is pretty good, but the portions are too small and the price is too high
Dining outside was a battle with the flies. The little fan they give you is not enough to win the war against their ilk.

I can not say enough good things about this place. The food was amazing. Our waitress Kim was outnof this world. We were a party of 7 and she was super attentive even though they were very busy. The lobster tail was scrumptious and the oysters Heidi are absolutely incredible. We actually came back the very next night. When we called and mentioned the bacon appetizer Nick brought us a piece and said happy 30th anniversary. We live in Maryland but visit SC often and we will be back. Oh also do the triple chocolate mousse it can be shared by 3 or even 4 and so incredible! I can't say enought good things !! I'd give them 100 stars out of 100

Food was great for me. My husband had fish which was a little overcooked. Service was top notch. Noise can get a bit loud when busy.

Wanted to go somewhere that gave 1 of 1 energy and this delivered. We sat on the patio, which although off the main street, had screens and foliage to make it feel a little more private. Our sever Bridget was awesome- personable, quick, and offered great recommendations.

We recieved a complimentary pimento cheese board, which was pretty good. For apps I got 4 oysters (great flavor and presentation) and the fish bites. Fish bites were light and full of flavor, a nice diversion from the abundance of callabash seafood in the area. The sauce it was served with was fantastic too - just the right amount of heat and acidity, but not too overwhelming. The cocktails were great too. I got the lazy alligator and it was the perfect sweet little treat I needed.

For our entrées: I got the crab stuffed flounder, my brother the crab cake, and my mother the buratta salad w/ shrimp. Overall, no complaints. The salad was delicious - especially the peach vinaigrette - and it was quickly devoured. The crab cake mixture was fantastic, the remoulade and corn purée being perfect accompaniments. My one and only small critque has to be regarding my dish. While delicious, I found the dish overall desperately needing a sauce by default. While not necessarily dry, a sauce would tie it together beautifully. That being said, I requested a side of their Oahu sauce (a tropical take on a hollandaise - 10/10!!!) and that did the job for me. The way the flounder was finished gave it almost a crisp exteriour that was great.

Somehow, 4 oysters, an app, and an entrée weren't enough, so I ordered a scoop of their maple brown sugar ice cream. I am at a loss for words to truly describe how transcending this ice cream was. It was like an ice cream-related ego death, I was brought to tears. Genuinely one of, if not the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. After yapping Bridget's ear off, she let me know that they get their ice cream from Coffee and Cream next door. My wallet is not prepared for when I step foot in the door, because if any of the other flavors come close to that MBB - oh boy.

TDLR; if you want to go somewhere unique, somewhat upscale with locally sourced dishes and fantastic service, run - don't walk - to Hook & Barrel.

The restaurant is gorgeous and so is the presentation of every dish. That’s what makes ordering so hard because you want to get everything you see come out of the kitchen. We always enjoy the oyster selection, making this the perfect date night spot. Staff are attentive.

Wow what a lovely restaurant.
I came here because it was recommended online and by locals- I can see why.

The food- absolutely amazing and fresh.
The drinks- I had a spicy margarita and loved it.
Ambiance- so beautiful. I chose to sit inside. You can choose if you want to sit inside or outside. You can’t do wrong with whichever you choose. Also the music selection, was great. If you like old school music, this is your vibe!
Staff- everyone was so friendly especially the waitress I had, Bridget. She was attentive and helpful in choosing my dishes.

I went there to celebrate my birthday and I am happy that I did. Highly recommend!

New favorite Happy Hour spot. Staff is friendly and professional. My husband and I tried the BLT sliders, Oyster ala Heidi, Truffle fries, and Pineapple Bread pudding. Everything was so delicious! Finished with a s’mores martinis. They also have a shady outdoor seating with a swing porch. Love this place ❤️

Update: While I appreciate the response below, it feels disingenuous. I sent an email to the address provided and included my email address and phone number. It's been 6 days and no call, text, or email. I don't want it to appear like I ignored his response as I don't take negative reviews lightly. This is disappointing.

Restaurant refused to take a reservation on a Wednesday for a party of 7. Two of us are celebrating a birthday that day and we are locals who would go to the restaurant all year round. They obviously don't want our business. Super disappointing!!
