What a great place staff is really friendly everything is homemade. I got gumbo it was amazing. Pimento cheese fries were great first time I ever had something like that. I would love to go back but we just stopped on our way while traveling. But seriously if you are in the area try it out.

I grew up in Charleston..
Been here my whole life and have eaten at every soul food restaurant in the Charleston area. Let me say this loud so all y'all can hear me. Genesis is the best around. The fried pork chops are probably the best food I've ever tasted. The beautiful young lady I talked to while waiting on my food was so pleasant that I could've spent all afternoon getting to know her. The atmosphere is perfect. I'm actually thinking about ordering...

Any of my complaints won't subtract from the 5 stars they earned today! I would suggest a better beer selection..... And that's it.. Well, the dining room was a little warm but the whole building was having HVAC work done. Not their fault. PS they cater too!
