I grew up on this BBQ and always looked forward to eating here as a child, and also Bessinger’s in Charleston. Nothing was like it! Came back home after many years. The smell of hickory smoke greeted us in the parking lot. The inside was full of nostalgic eye-candy. The people were very friendly. My Big Joe was huge! The meat was tender and juicy, but could not taste any smoke! The flavor I remembered was not there and the sauce was much more vinegar-forward. I didn’t my sandwich....

Maurice's has some high reviews which is why we decided to eat there.
The staff was very friendly and southernly.
The food was not bad. I would even say the best BBQ in SC. The brisket, and ribs were moist and tender. The okra was crispy which I love. The lemonade was excellent. Just how I like it.
The only knock I would give it is the turkey was kinda dry and the cold slaw was too mushy for our taste.

I know everyone has there own version of “the best” mac n cheese, but they have my vote! Not dried out where the cheese doesn’t stick to the noodles, but definitely not mushy either. Chicken tenders, brisket, ribs, pulled pork all wonderful! They know how to cook fried okra too! Just enough breading and just the right amount of crispy, the pieces are cut to the perfect size and very consistent and (most importantly) no slime! Baked beans aren’t mushy either and have bits...
