A tasty surprise in Custer—don’t skip the smashed potatoes 🐺
What a great lunch stop! I had the smoked trout BLT, and wow—if cold-smoked salmon and magic had a baby, this would be it. Seriously, try it.
My fiancée had the burger, which hit all the right notes, but the real MVP? The smashed potatoes. Golden, crispy perfection. If you skip them, you’ve made a terrible life choice.
Service was on the slower side, but they seemed slammed, and let’s be real—this place probably deals with a rotating cast of hangry tourists all day. Props to the staff for holding it together.
Bottom line: amazing food, a little patience required, but totally worth the stop.
Great food, great vibe, great people. Home of the best sandwich in the Hills: smoked trout BLT. They also offer the best bread pudding I have ever had, as well as the best onion rings ever (off-season only).
So good, our family of four went two days in a row rather than try somewhere new. The bread pudding was delicious!
Good food and fun staff to serve you.
Their Walleye Chermoula fish dish was awesome!!!
Excellent place to eat while in Custer. Very eclectic menu with something for everyone! Excellent food at reasonable prices. Good beer selection also.
Service & Atmosphere were great, the food not so good.

This was pretty typical bar food. It was not a “gastro pub” and did not deserve the title or price.

I, my daughter and her boyfriend had an early supper at Custer Wolf. My daughter ordered the chicken tenders and ate most of them. Later at our hotel she became very ill and was up all night in the bathroom vomiting. Her boyfriend only ate one of the tenders and felt ill as well. I can’t recommend the chicken tenders, but the fish and chips seem to be ok. We had to cut our trip short because of my daughter’s illness.
I have celiac and was able to safely eat a burger here. No dedicated fryer, but after two days in the Black Hills with very few options it was like finding a watering hole in the desert.
Dietary restrictions: No gluten free menu, but they were able to make my burger GF with a GF bun. I have celiac and did not get sick.
Loved the Custer Wolf! We had the friend green beans to start and the Ukranian sauces were fantastic. We had the burger with jalapeño and the beef bulgogi and both were fantastic! Highly recommend.
