Best crab cakes I've ever had! The salmon and dill dip sharable was fantastic. Also, the steaks and smashed potatoes were delicious. I hope they keep their carrot cake on the menu also... 😋 Yum!

Came in at 9:45 and refused our family because “seating was closed”
For a Wednesday evening the restaurant was very busy. The service was slow. The bar got two drinks wrong and was very slow. The server was apologetic but very courteous. The food when finally received was excellent. And the pricing was very high. The noise level was unacceptable. So loud you had to strain to hear your guests across the table and had to speak very loudly to be heard.

We used to really enjoy J Alexander's, but we've been let down twice now at two different locations.
The only good part of our meal was the caesar salad. The fries are usually awesome but they even seemed old. Both steaks were somehow bland even with a decent crust. Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes weren't too bad but not enough to redeem disappointing steaks.
Seated after our reservation time - very dissapointing.

Reservations At 6pm. It’s 6:30, seated…I think they squeeze too many. For the $$ they should afford more time in between tables. Just make time for it.
Food was good. Fries not great…which they are usually spot on. Dessert great as always.

The restaurant is loud when a lot of people come in so we were expecting that. However, our waiter talked so low, we couldn’t hear a thing he was saying. We ordered the chicken and smashed potatoes. The smashed potatoes were cold and we had to get a new order. My daughter had the steak and fries and the steak was mostly fat. I ordered the filet medium and it was under seasoned and mostly cold. I’ve been to this location over fifty times easily. I have to say this was my worst experience.

Visited on Friday, 11/7/25. My daughter went in to reserve a table when one host mentioned an hour and a half wait. She came back to the car to tell me, which we agreed to wait. When she went back to put our name down, a different hostess said, “Sorry, we’re all booked.” Went on Resy and there were several available times.
The main dining area was busy with a moody setting. We were put in a “back side area” with no music and what felt like 85 degrees of heat just blowing on our table. The way I compared it was like going to a family gathering where you have an adult table and the kiddy table… the main dining area was the adult area and we were sat at the timeout kiddy area. Not really an issue, but absolutely killed the ambiance.
Ordered two apps. One was the MEXICO CITY SPINACH CON QUESO. The queso was so watery we might as well have drank it. We also ordered the Tuna Poke. Not great, not bad. Would I get it again, no.
I ordered the AGED NEW YORK STRIP medium rare. Absolutely no seasoning, no salt and nothing aged about it. There’s nothing more disappointing to be let down when anxiously awaiting for some beef.
Daughter had the NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN SANDWICH, which she thought was pretty good and the wife had the FILET MIGNON WITH BÉARNAISE, which she also thought it lacked seasoning and flavor.
The servicer was good and we enjoyed him. For $220, I could have done 3 rounds at Texas Roadhouse and gotten better quality ribeye steak than what we were served here. With all of the options in the area, we will not be returning.

I came in tonight to grab takeout for my hubby and I. I was a little surprised it took about 45 minutes for our food so I did have to wait at the bar a little while but it was alright because the gentleman who helped me was so nice to talk with a bit. Another sweet young lady came by to ask did I need anything. I appreciate how kind and helpful you guys were. Also my salmon and mashed potatoes were so yummy. I have been coming here since High School which was many years ago so Jalexanders will always be a special place to me as I had many dates here as a youngster. Keep up the great work you guys. I’m not going to lie the amount of potatoes on my plate were so much I’m like goodness these portions are a bit too large but hey some people like that 🙈 😊

I ordered the French Dip sandwich to go and it was absolutely awful ...was tough and had hard pieces all through out the sandwich... paid 30$...what a-disappointment...the French Dip at Arby's so much better and only 6$...

You can't go wrong with this restaurant although, the West End Location has tastier food. I don't really understand if there is a set recipe for food how the flavor changes depending on I guess the chef. I believe the barbecue sauce was missing some ingredients. More like tomato sauce with minimum seasoning. Luckily I had some in fridge. Food was tasty, mac n cheese was great. Quick service, minimal wait time.
