Had heard a lot of good things from multiple sources about Merridee’s so had high expectations. Food ranged from fantastic to good and they had a lot of options for breakfast. Ordering was done at the front desk and food was brought to you later. Coffee and tea was standard fair and nothing to write home about. Overall they seemed to have a ton of bakery options as well but we did not order those so cannot speak to how good that portion may have been. There were multiple people eating there that only got the pastries.

I'm a bit of a biscuit purist (thanks to being raised by southern women) but everything else was fab! The hash brown casserole is very well seasoned and their coffee is very good!

When I want a perfect breakfast, all signs point to the “Five Points Breakfast”. This perfect plate is out in a flash, and it hits every base. Today was a home run! 10/10

I lived in Franklin in 2008-2009. I used to come here for breakfast often and loved it. I loved their cinnamon rolls then but now they can’t be called that. They are rolls with icing with no cinnamon. Y’all can and have done better.

They have really good pastries. They’ve been around for a long time and every time I go in to get some breakfast I feel like I’m back in my childhood. Their prices are good for the food that you get. Their staff is really well trained and knowledgeable about how to give the customer the best experience they should have. Atmosphere is really amazing feels like being at home with fresh food being served.
Wish they had more menu options, pretty limited, but the food was still good! A little expensive for the portions (at least on my end) but the atmosphere makes up for it.
The place had a unique look, but it was loud (you could hear the dishes being cleaned) had sticky tables that weren’t cleaned well between patrons, and it feels dirty. I was still hopeful for good food though. It looked like a local hole-in-the-wall that would have good eats. Instead I was pretty let down. I had the reuben with pasta salad and my wife had the famous chicken salad. The pasta salad tasted like noodles and beans. Nothing else. Very little seasoning was used and not even salt and pepper helped make up for the bland taste. The reuben was good. Probably the only satisfying part of our meal. The chicken salad had a good texture, but also had little to no flavor. The homemade sourdough bread was slightly stale and chewy and was also bland. I just had my mother-in-laws sourdough the day prior so I had some recent bread to compare it to. Overall, I wish I liked this place, but it definitely wasn’t worth $20 per person when all we had was a meal, side, and a drink. If we spent $20-$25 here for two people I probably wouldn’t be as disappointed.
Triple Crown bakery is closed on Mondays so I tried Merridees I ordered the cinnamon rolls and almond wheels. Better to wait for Triple Crown to open. Their bakery goods were old and the flavor did not taste homemade.
Merridee’s Breadbasket: Few Clean Tables, Obnoxiously Loud Kitchen, and A Sneaky Upcharge.
On a sunny Saturday afternoon this April, my wife and I ventured into Merridee’s Breadbasket for a late lunch. There were plenty of enticing items on the menu. I chose the Patty Melt, which according to the menu came with one side. The woman at the cashier entered my choice in the computer, asked if I wanted a drink (I did) and gave me the total. I said, “Don’t you want to know what my side is?” She said, “It comes with chips, but you can sub for another side.” “Baked Mac and cheese would be great, please.”
She read the total again, which sounded a little high to me, and I tapped my card. She didn’t offer a receipt, so I asked her for one. Examining the charges as I walked to the soda fountain, I realized she had added a $2 upcharge for the Mac and cheese. There was no mention of this on the menu and she didn’t say anything to me about it. She just added it.
Then we had to find a table, which ultimately was quite simple because every table that was vacant was also littered with dirty dishes from earlier patrons. There were two open tables that were clean: a large four-top in the middle of the dining room and a two-top in a quiet corner. We chose the two-top and were grateful it was clean.
A short while later we noticed a solitary bus person clearing and cleaning the dirty tables. Then our food arrived. It looked really tasty and we happily started eating. Within a couple of minutes, we heard the sink turn on in the kitchen, which turned out to be on the other side of the wall where we were seated. For the next 30 minutes, the noise from the kitchen - booms, bangs, the clatter of silverware and plates - overwhelmed our conversation. There were moments when it was easier to eat in silence than try to talk over the din.
In the end, our good was, as my father used to say, “absolutely average”. The Mac and cheese was bland, as was my wife’s Cobb salad and blue cheese dressing. The patty melt was substantial, if a little greasy.
I think it will be a long time before we try Merridee’s again. We can have an average experience anywhere, and there are many other options in downtown Franklin.
