Tangerine Japanese Cuisine

This is the best sushi bar I have found in the greater knoxville area. Having lived in Japan and worked as a sushi chef in San Francisco it's not hard to see that Ricky takes his craft seriously. The fish is fresh and isn't adulterated with food coloring , the portions are generous and the presention is top notch. Most importantly, his rice (the cornerstone of sushi flavor and texture ) is fresh and seasoned properly. It's not too dry, too sweet or overly vinegary but moist fluffy and balanced in flavor.

He offers a standard sushi menu. One that offers sashimi, nigiri and rolls you're familiar with and can depend on. But, if you can appreciate authentic sushi then you want to be friends with this guy. You might get lucky and get a special dish that isn't available on the standard menu.

Update** Ricky made me a special off-the-menu dish..I didnt ask for it, thats just how he rolls ( pun intended) with his regulars. It was like a miniature chirashi or poke bowl with extra attention to presentation..it tasted just like it looks, delicious

We always get (vegetarian) takeout, and this place has amazing food! The little touches like the flower that they include in the sushi, are outstanding! The miso soup has thick tofu and vegetable leaves, and it's so good! Most places skimp and give small portions, but not this place. I HIGHLY recommend this sushi restaurant. My husband and I have found our new favorite restaurant. Thank you, Tangerine 🍊!

Been coming here for a few years. Truly a hidden gem, you wouldn't think you were getting this level of quality at a glance. The inside has a wonderful atmosphere.

I get my regular. Volcano roll and the chicken hibachi with the mushroom and onion soup. It can't be beat.

Was disappointed in this place. Sushi was heavy on one individual ingredient. Calamari were massive and over cooked fingers.

We absolutely love that we’ve found this hole in the wall sushi restaurant. We’ve been pretty much everywhere in Knoxville and I firmly believe these guys do the best job with sushi. Their presentation is also beautiful and they put a lot of care and attention to their rolls. Highly recommend!

Amazing Host, super chill guy. All the servers I have met have been real chilltastic. Owners got lots of Aura (+charisma points). Food was fire especially the kamikaze. 6/5 stars.

Been hearing about how great the food is. We decided to try it tonight.

Yikes. Took 55 minutes to get our food. No one set expectations such a delay was coming.

Waitress couldn't understand why our toddler was fussing nor why we were disappointed with an almost hour wait for rice. Some how she got rude with us?

Finally, food comes, different server. Our Server walks by a number of times. Fails to check on us even once, very passive aggressive and petty.

No one apologized. No one got us refills. No one offered dessert, no togo boxes. Hostess brought us the bill.

Will not return.

Was several hours from home picking up a friend and our Google search for sushi and noodles brought us here. Walked in 30 minutes before closing on a Tuesday night and were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess and waited on by a lovely, attentive server. Service was excellent, food was delicious, hot green tea hit the spot. Decor was simple and elegant. Very reasonably priced. Go here! You won't regret it.
