Celebrated a friend’s birthday last night. It was our first visit. We had a great experience. Our server Wesley was professional, attentive, and knowledgeable.

Not worth the prices they are charging IMO. Some of the dishes were decent but none were stellar. The pasta sauce was extremely over salted, pretty much inedible. Some of the dishes took forever to come out (over an hour), it seemed like there was some kind of problem in the kitchen. I wouldn’t say the service was bad, but seemed pretty disorganized. The duck was pretty good so giving 2 stars for that, but for the prices they are charging there are way better restaurants in Memphis.

Food is expertly prepared with amazing flavor and technique. The service and staff are top notch, best around. Loved the old machinery shop turned elegant restaurant. It's a beautiful place. My favorites were the arancini and bucatini. I'll go back just for the bucatini alone. French onion ravioli has great flavor and the potato fondue was decadent and rich. When you see carrot cake on the menu of a place of this level, you know it has to be good. The carrot cake was over the top; the best I've ever had. They begin the meal with amuse bouche from the chef and end it with chocolates...how could you go wrong. Highly recommend. I'll definitely go back.Parking: Easy valet at the door. Parking garage directly across the street, open 24 hours.

I expected better from Amelia Gene's - maybe my expectations were too high, or maybe we went on an off night. From reading other reviews, it sounds like maybe we just didn't have a great server. Some parts of the experience were great: hostesses kind and attentive, water always refilled, and overall staff seemed to be kind. My table loved our drinks and the biscuits. Potato fondue and cheesecake were good, too. Our plates came quickly which was nice, as we told our server we had an event after dinner. However, there are areas for improvement. Our server couldn't tell us what certain ingredients were in cocktails ('it's flavorful, not too deep but nice'), and couldn't name which vegetables were in the root vegetable salad ('beets' is all we were told). The lamb pasta was just okay, nothing special. The ravioli was also just fine. Silverware wasn't refreshed with new plates, and when we sat down there was a dead bug on a small plate already on the table. The loud music over the speakers ranged from current pop to Carole King to odd instrumental pieces and didn't really have a theme or a vibe. Overall, these are small things that don't really say 'great fine dining' with that attention to detail. I wish there were more menu options other than mostly seafood and beef. Not sure we'll be back anytime soon for dinner, perhaps just a bar drink. I was hoping this would really be a new fine dining option in Memphis, but we'll likely pick Flight next time for a nice downtown meal.

We have now visited twice. This restaurant is really to be one of the best restaurants in the city. From the weight staff to the bartenders to the housemate cocktails, I cannot find one thing to complain about. Everything is an exceptional experience. But the food. It's something else. A well done, upscale menu and dining experience.

They are not using any glove in the kitchen touching the food. Portion are super small. Not worth the money

Incredible food, drinks & staff! Jordan, Davis & Lenora behind the bar provided such great, comfortable service and made us definite repeat guests. Can’t wait to come back and have the tortellini, ravioli & a few more old fashioneds!

Interesting night at Amelia Gene’s!Such a beautiful and intriguing building in the heart of downtown. It’s in a perfect location near hotels and the Orpheum and not too far from the FedEx Forum. Inside, the space is large and elegant and gorgeous. It feels like a place to get engaged or celebrate very special occasions.Upon entry, I was greeted right away by the hostess. She asked about the reservation and she directed me to my party sitting at the bar. This is where the interesting service began. The bartender was very direct. No small talk. Just do you want a drink? What? We stared at each other for a long moment before I realized I had no cocktail menu. I don’t know how to explain it besides he was kind of barking at everyone for their orders and handing out checks like hot potatoes. It was a strange experience for the group. We kind of felt like we were being yelled at. The bartender was even like “give your coats your coat check!” I think he was trying to be helpful but it all felt like he was giving us marching orders. The other interesting part of the night happened when we were led to our table of six for a confirmed reservation of 7. Our seventh wasn’t there yet. At that time we learned that a reservation of 7 was not allowed. The biggest group was 6. Then how did the reservation get confirmed? Why didn’t the restaurant call back when the reservation holder called to double check for a reservation of 7? The group spent a good 15 minutes going back and forth with the waitress as she tried to see if they could make any accommodations. It really threw off the whole vibe of the night as we had all wanted to sit together (girls’ night).Ultimately, we split up the group. I understand that there was no table for seven but that could have been communicated at any point before we sat down. Also, I was disappointed no one from the management staff came over to talk to us and apologize for the misunderstanding. They made the waitress do all the dirty work and then she was flustered having to take care of two tables now. It was unprofessional for such a high end establishment.Amelia Gene’s is a high end restaurant with a menu to match. Not everyone has had a lot of fine dining experiences in their life, which is fine. Therefore, the waiter should be prepared to really explain and guide the diners through the menu. Our waitress didn’t handle that part well. I understand she was flustered and as the night went on she was getting more and more frazzled. At one point, someone asked her what a leek was and said “I don’t know.” Ma’am, just say it’s a vegetable. You know what a leek is. It would have helped if you took us through the menu from the top. The lobbyist did an excellent job of this and made our dining experience much smoother in terms of what to expect. She also didn’t even ask about dessert, just threw out checks. In terms of food, it was fine. I didn’t /love/ anything. The clam chowder was good. I like the deconstructed nature of it and the bread. The lamb parts was a bit too bitter and chewy to me. The crème brûlée was also a little bitter but the whipped cream saved it. That part was magical. I liked the shadow woman drink a lot and the mango tequila Memphis drink was okay. All in all, it was an experience. I think I would like to go back one day and try one of the steak options. However, I’m in no rush to return.

Enjoyed the food and ambience for Valentine’s Day dinner very much. Was a little disappointed with the bread selection. I had read about them having an in house bread baker. I would have liked to have a choice between the sourdough or biscuit rather than just one option. Also would have liked help choosing a wine. Our waiter was very attentive but not knowledgeable about the wine menu. I’m not sure if they have a sommelier but that service was not offered to us. That is a service that I expect at a fine dining restaurant.

First off let me just say me and my wife eat out several times a week and the service and atmosphere is top notch here. Maybe I just don't understand the Michelin portion of the experience. The menu is way to complicated and the bread and drinks were the best part of the night. My wife got the French onion ravioli and a side of potato latke (ravioli is basically French Onion soup). I went for the Root Salad, NY Strip and a side of potato latke (I thought salad was way to bitter). My NY Strip I ordered Med Rare, was pretty much rare when it came out, I can live with that except it had no sear what so ever and I just didn't care for the taste of it. The cheesecake was good no complaints on dessert. My personal opinion for $300 dinner and drinks there are way to many really really good restaurants in the Memphis area!
