We really enjoyed brunch here. The biscuit board was delicious. We would definitely come again. Service was attentive and very nice.

Very Disappointing Birthday Breakfast Experience
I visited Sweet Grits in Memphis, TN for breakfast on my birthday, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had.
I ordered the shrimp and grits — the grits were lumpy and completely lacking flavor, and the shrimp had no seasoning at all. The scrambled eggs were even worse — it looked like one egg with a slice of cheese just laid on top, not mixed or melted. The French toast was drenched in cinnamon to the point of being inedible. To make matters worse, there were flying gnats around our table.
My husband and I each took only a couple of bites before calling the waiter over. He didn’t seem to care much, simply saying he’d “told the cook,” and that was the end of it. No apology, no effort to make it right, and yet we still had to pay full price for $65 meals we couldn’t eat.
For a place that came highly recommended, this was a huge letdown — especially on what was supposed to be a special day. I won’t be returning, and I hope management takes feedback like this seriously.

The various choices of grits is amazing. The different flavor combos are great; my favorite was the duck & grits. Loved the food and atmosphere so much I got my picture with the owner and staff and bought a T-shirt.

After waiting over 45 minutes between standing at the door and being seated with no menu, then being brought a menu that was disgustingly nasty, the server never came to take our order, and watching another employee walking around drinking shots while on the clock we just left.

We had waited an hour and all we got was our appetizer they didn’t tell us they were out of carbonated drinks until one of us had to ask about our drinks we left before we got our food because we had a show to go to .

this place is the worst. I visited today and the bugs are terrible. Couldn’t enjoy my orange juice due to nats flying around. when the food came out it was nasty. Also experience roaches crawling around our table. I wouldn’t recommend this place.
I’m from Little Rock Arkansas and I came to Memphis for the Boy is Mine concert! Upon us leaving we wanted to eat brunch! We choose sugar grits! I was not impressed by the food! The male waitress was polite! But the food was nasty! I would not recommend! Waited to be seated, waited to get our order taken, waited to receive something to drink, waited for our food, a couple that got there after us received their food before us! I could go on but I want! Please do better! Thanks

Sugar & Grits is a true hidden gem in Memphis! The food is absolutely delicious — every dish is made with care and full of Southern flavor. The grits are creamy and perfectly seasoned, and the breakfast options are hearty and satisfying. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel right at home. You can tell they take pride in what they do. Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast or brunch, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and genuine Southern hospitality!

Great food and presentation. The hostess stand was not quickly attended though. There will be fees on your food and drink lol

I visited Sugar and Grits for breakfast recently with my husband, and unfortunately, our experience was far from enjoyable. While the menu offered a nice selection, the service we received was disappointing.
The server, Vernon insisted that we pay in cash, even though the restaurant clearly accepts credit card payments. This demand felt both unnecessary and unprofessional, leaving us uncomfortable and confused.
It's crucial for a restaurant to provide a seamless dining experience, and this incident overshadowed what could have been a lovely morning. I hope management addresses this issue so future diners can enjoy their meals without similar disruptions.

The Resturant was filthy , one person waiting on the entire Resturant. Had to request several times to get silverware, water and grits. Was really hoping for a better experience .

This was my second attempt to eat at Sugar Grits. The wait was ridiculous even though majority of the place was empty with plenty of seating. I watched 6 or more people walk out the door because of this. Will not be returning ever!!

Amy I’m responding regarding the comment you left after the “StepForward” review. Let’s be clear you never asked anyone if they wanted to remake the food….if we are being transparent. Your exact words were “take the plates and credit their bill” (In a nasty tone). One in our party said it’s cold and you respond again, in a nasty tone “ it just came out” as if she was lying. Regardless if it just came out or not does not take way the fact when she bit into the french toast that it was cold. The way you respond was not what we expected or professional.
You took my plate from in front of me, I paused because I never told you to touch my plate. I then asked where you put my plate because was gonna keep my food but you took it. You then said I put it on the bar. It was two other co workers that decided to keep their meal. As far as the other two they said they did not want it at all because it took entirely too long to come out COLD! You just started removing plates from the table, so no that’s not the way you as a manger should have handled that situation. You just took my plate from in front of me with my fork in the air so if you say this is not true you have more going on with you other than customer service. Secondly, we ordered an appetizer that never came. We received our food close to an hour later still with no appetizer. This is one of the worst customer service experience received, and if this is your management skills bless your soul. I could not get a simple to go box in a timely manner, which is why almost the whole plate of fish and grits was still on the table. I do not advise anyone to dine here. We felt good telling the two parties that was waiting how horrible to the service was and it was good to see them walk out and thanking us because no one deserves that especially when spending hard earned money.
This was the only place we had issues with dining. Sugar grits was the only one in the downtown area to stay away from. The fish and grits was actually pretty good but it’s not good when the service is horrible.
Generous portions! Best breakfast we have had in ages. Our server, Jalisa, was also awesome. Great coffee too!! The pancakes are divine, as well as the potato cake and the biscuit is melt in your mouth.

Idk if it was just a bad day or what but my issue started from the time I walked in. It felt like there was only one person working. Our waiter, bless his heart, did what he could.
Let’s talk about that REPULSIVE bathroom. Two or the three stalls didn’t work and the ENTIRE BATHROOM SMELLED LIKE SEWAGE!!! I couldn’t take the smell. I ended up returning to my table.
The service was SLOW, but it may have been because the server was the host as well.
The food finally came out and was cold. When the manager approached the table, instead of trying to solve the problem, she instructed the server to take ALL the plates from the table.
I wouldn’t recommend it.
