About The Four Way Soul Food Restaurant

The Four Way Soul Food Restaurant is a well-known spot that has been serving delicious soul food to the Memphis community since 1946. This homey and welcoming restaurant offers a taste of history with every bite. Owned by Jerry and his wife Mrs. Patrice Thompson, the Four Way continues to honor the rich traditions and recipes that have made it a beloved local institution. The menu features soul food staples like collard greens, pinto beans, fried chicken, and the best catfish in Memphis, all prepared with care and expertise.

The atmosphere at the Four Way is full of nostalgia, with walls decorated with memorabilia and the air filled with the scent of iconic dishes like cornbread and fried catfish. Customers often mention the outstanding service, with the greeting and table service rated a perfect 10/10. Visitors note that the staff is warm and welcoming, making everyone feel like part of the community. Many highlight the friendly lady at the front who takes orders with exceptional customer service, adding to the restaurant’s inviting vibe.

The food is highly praised, especially the fried chicken, which one customer described as crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection—reminding them of their mother’s fried chicken. The yams are described as out of this world, and the turnip greens are so flavorful that hot sauce isn't even needed. Other favorites include the salmon croquettes with house-made tartar sauce, flavorful cabbage, and fried green tomatoes that taste just like grandma’s. The black-eyed peas are full of flavor, and the peach cobbler, though a bit thick and dry, is enjoyed for its great flavor. The cornbread was a small miss for some, being a bit dry and cold.

Customers also enjoy the turkey burger and fries, noting the seasoned burger and perfectly cooked bacon, although the bun can sometimes be burnt, giving a slight burnt taste. The sweet tea is consistently praised as excellent. Beyond the food, many appreciate the rich history of the restaurant, which has connections to MLK, civil rights leaders, Elvis, Obama, and celebrities, making it a true Memphis landmark.

Overall, The Four Way Soul Food Restaurant remains a favorite for locals and visitors alike, offering a warm, nostalgic, and delicious experience that honors Memphis’ deep-rooted traditions.

I ate there yesterday (first visit) and loved everything!

I got the turkey and dressing, yams, and turnip greens.

The portions were extremely generous, and the yams were especially delectable—like a dessert!

The staff was welcoming, friendly and attentive, and I especially appreciated the history of the restaurant.

I’ll be back again!

The owner and her staff are a genuine group of Memphis Black Soul Love. I had an amazing time learning about the establishments history. The beauty of keeping the community together makes this a diamond 💎. Let's not forgot the food is right from Grandma's kitchen.
