“We enjoyed the hometown feel of this place. Solid choice for lunch while touring the Stones River National Battlefield nearby. Service was friendly and efficient. Cornbread served with plates was delicious and chocolate pie was a good treat.“
“If you are looking for incredible Southern Cooking…you need to visit Southern Soul Cuisine. They opened in September and when I arrived Adrian (the owner) went through all of the meat options and then he told me about the fried chicken. The fried chicken is cooked to order so I went with the white meat option (breast and wing) and I added a thigh. For sides I selected the pinto beans, cabbage, and sweet potatoes along with a fountain drink. You may have to wait 15 minutes for the chicken…but the chicken Adrian serves up would make your Granny jealous. This was some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in a very long time, crispy skin that was not overly seasoned and the meat was tender and juicy. While the chicken was excellent, the sides were saying “you ain’t tasted nothing yet”!!! Pinto beans had a great depth to the flavor with a rich sauce and tender beans. The sweet potatoes were not overly sweetened (like candied) and you could taste the sweet potato, slightly firm, and reminded me of Thanksgiving. I saved the best for last…the cabbage. Many times cabbage offered is just boiled, but Adrian adds some secret ingredients and it is awesome. So while the meat was excellent, the sides are created in true Southern tradition. Several homemade desserts were available…but I was stuffed. The location may be difficult to get into with traffic, but the food that awaits you is well worth it. Pay Adrian a visit and enjoy some good old home cooking right here in Murfreesboro.“
“We’re looking for something off the beaten path and found this place. Great food and service. Had the catfish and greens, oh hell yes. We will be back, one note, they don’t have pepper vinegar for the greens which I love, but it is well worth your time! Try them, oh and they have a poker night too. ?“
“The City Cafe is a true gem that I wish we had found much sooner right by the square in Murfreesboro. The cinnamon bun was so much better than anything Cinnabon makes. I enjoyed the Western omelet with a Bisket, my wife had two eggs over easy with true fried potatoes (not those cut squares other restaurants force on you) and biskets with gravy. Granted the gravy needed some cream added for flavor but it was still good.“
