This restaurant is no longer in business. Very embarrassing for a first date when you get there and the restaurant has been closed.

Just went her with one of my friends and they gave us the wrong order and when we asked about it they said “it’s a gift and our food is on the way” and then when we got home and rechecked the bill he charged us for for the plate we didn’t order

My party and I were poisoned by steak tartar. Appalling, this restaurant used to be good.

I go to Aviary regularly. This particular occasion the server was a bit condescending when it came to recommendations for wine. My friend is a sommelier and wanted to to taste a wine and he proceeded to give her a description of the wine and very dismissive when we again asked to taste. This is a wine shop and this was a wine by the glass it shouldn't have been a problem. Eventually he did acquiesce but all night he had an edge. I don't know if he'd behave this way if it was two men.

Last Tuesday, July 16th, I brought myself and several out of town guests to have dinner at Aviary - after raving about the food!!!! My particular favorite being a Tuna Mango Crudo dish I had enjoyed with work friends not a few weeks earlier. Instead of a fabulous experience for my guests, it was one of the worst customer service encounters I have ever experienced. When we sat down the menu was not the menu that had been served the last time I dined, but rather a “kitchen takeover” of some sort. Not that there was information in the space nor any communication from the staff that that was happening. They didn’t tell us anything, until we ordered and were informed that half of the menu was not available! All the things that looked truly delicious were sold out. One of my guests asked why they didn’t give us a heads up, and the very trendy girl with the long brown hair wearing the black leotard and jeans taking our order just shrugged. Since we were left very few options to chose from, we had to take more time to order (a problem we could have avoided if they had just talked to us). The food we finally ordered was small portions and very over priced (8 small pieces of diced potato for $12!?) and the quality was severely lacking. The steaks were cold and we weren’t even asked what temperature we would like them. (probably because they were already cooked) The snapper smelled so off we could smell it at our table from the kitchen, and the beef tartare was gray and everyone in my party that ate it got food poisoning. (A fact my girlfriend pointed out on their instagram post that they promptly deleted) We were complaining, I was apologizing to everyone I brought for the awful experience, promising them that it was good not 3 weeks ago. When we commented on how long the food was taking considering we were the only ones in the dining room, the staff turned up the music to drown us out. The more we complained, the more the staff avoided us. Like the plague in fact, choosing to gossip with one another behind the bar and stare at us while I took the responsibility of apologizing for the dreadful service. We finally googled the “kitchen takeover” and found on instagram that it had started on FRIDAY and was supposed to end Monday or “until sold out” well I guess we were the “until sold out” 5 days later!!!! But paying top dollar for food that was definitely getting thrown out a the end of the night felt like a slap in the face - especially given how the staff could care less about our clearly bad experience and chose instead to blast “They Not Like Us” directly into my guests faces so loud we couldn’t hear each other. I could not be more embarrassed that that was my company’s “Austin dine out experience”. What a rip off.

After having a couple glasses of wine, we walked to dinner afterwards and our car was booted. Knowing this place will tow us away if we drink too much to drive I will never come back here. This company is promoting unsafe drinking and driving practices.

Besides the unsafe parking situation, the food was abysmal. We split the beef tartare, which reminded me of a raw McDouble.

Went yesterday to find they were serving old food from the weekend special service. We were the only table there at the time. We were told after we had ordered drinks that half the menu wasn’t available. We sucked it up and decided to stay anyway. Food took ages to come out and a lot of it was cold by the time it got to us. The front-of-house staff could hear us complaining, and instead of talking to us to see how they could help or apologizing for what was obviously terrible service, they TURNED UP THE MUSIC to drown us out. No offer to comp anything, no apologies, and a “health and wellness” fee on top of an already pricy dinner left a truly sour taste in our mouths. Cherry on top, I have food poisoning today (wish I knew the beef tartare was old). This was my first time here, and I was thoroughly disappointed because I have heard such good things about this place before.

NEW GO TO SPOT. My friend and I went to get some wine and food and left feeling sooooo good! The food is some of the freshest I’ve had in a while in terms of uniqueness and quality. Everyone who was working treated us like close friends. We laughed so hard, had like 7 different dishes off the menu, 5 different wines. I can’t express enough in text what a great time we had. Made us so happy!!

We've been here a few times. Menu has always been on the smallish side but today was very limited. Apps were great. Entrees were mediocre. Sommelier and service are on point in a relaxed, comfortable space. Happy hour 4-6 is worth leaving work early.

Food was amazing Server provided excellent recommendations and communicated dietary needs to chef accurately. Also made great wine suggestion. Started to get busy and noisy about 8-8:30

$38 for 2 scallops with some rice and hot sauce. $8 for 2 slices of store bought toasted sourdough.Pretax and tip btw. This used to be a fun and cozy neighborhood eatery. Disappointing to see this place has become another rip off “Austin eatery”.
