Easygoing, quiet, unstimulating vibe with a serene outdoor dining area. Feels a lot like a Buddhist meditation retreat center dining hall. Loved to see several folks hanging out and quietly reading books. The food is nicely cooked and very mildly seasoned, which makes sense. But if you're selling Mexican food, how do you have NO salsas, peppers, or hot sauces?? Yet the tables have soy sauce and a nutritional yeast shaker? Like who made this decision lmao.

Meat lover who craves healthy meals from here
My favorite place in Austin for healthy and affordable food! Each meal is a fixed price with a set meal. All food is vegan and the best vegan food I have eaten. Portions are large, and there is no tip required. I have had three meals here on separate occasions, and each time the meal was different and tasty. There is a parking lot in front with ample street parking in the nearby neighborhood if necessary. I will be making it a priority to visit Casa de Luz East at least once a week!

Best food in the city
what a great place. you are fed healthy food, in pleasant welcoming surroundings (and it is a great deal) . if you are on the east side or at UT do yourself a favor and check out Casa de Luz East. I can't praise this place highly enough. It's on manor not far from IH 35 so a straight shot from UT an from all the new neighborhoods on the east side. I come here whenever the opportunity presents.

This is a place for healthy and delicious food. You don’t get to choose from menu, you pay for a plate of set of good food. And food is a good amount, will fill your stomach. We love to come here when we don’t want to cook and want something light. They have interesting desserts too. The environment is good, great music and nice inside & outside seats. Have parking in the front.

First rate clean, simple, fresh, Classic Vegan - price fixe meal. No fake meat, no deep fried over-seasoned unhealthy greasy stuff that passes for vegan in other places. Big portions. Friendly easy going staff. No tipping. Nice outdoor courtyard.

This is my favorite place in Austin. The food makes me feel so revitalized, and the ambiance is very relaxing. They have a lot of community outreach and other awesome shops in the vicinity. The set menu is insanely low priced at $16 as of this writing for a dinner. With that you get unlimited tea (hot and cold) and a plate that will definitely fill you up.

This place took me off guard.
I’m an omnivore and have leant towards the animal-based diet for several years. So why am I craving this type of food?
Sure, I’ve had more flavorful stuff. But it’s nourishing, clean and the staff is fabulous. It reminds me of the co-op days back in college. It’s not something I’d eat every day, but am glad it exists.
Bonus if you like Christmas music and speak Spanish.

Very thankful for the Casa de Luz! Healthy vegan meals served cafeteria style at a reasonable price— this has become a weekly spot for me. One of the businesses that makes Austin such a vibrant place for vegans. Keep on rockin’

Casa East is a little slice of heaven. Wholesome, from scratch, balanced meals made with love, by hand is something very special. The staff here is wonderful and eating any meal breakfast, lunch or dinner is an absolute treat. If you’re considering it, you won’t be disappointed. The courtyard is lovely and the interior is peaceful and calming.

The original casa de luz is a cool austin staple. Because it's vegan, some people won't be too anxious to try it, but if you're slightly curious, it is well worth it. It hasn't caught on as much as the central location and it probably would be a good thing for people in the neighborhood if it! I probably get more vegetables in one meal than I do most days, but it is cooked masterfully in an extrapolated version of macrobiotics.
