Overpriced wont be ordering from here again
My expectations were not met at all. The sizzling beef didn’t sizzle because there were too much sauce and didn’t taste good. The fish was just steamed and poured sauce over. Fish lack any flavor at all. The string beans were the only dish good only because it was just salt and sugar flavor. Portions were good.

Hands down my favorite place to eat in Austin. The employees here are unbelievably sweet, the portions are absolutely ridiculous (in the best way!) and the food is the best i’ve had in any city. Truly a magical place that offers top service, quality food, and an amazing atmosphere without breaking the bank.

I have been a long time regular here, we asked for extra rice, they acknowledged, brought it out and said that it would be an extra $4 charge after bringing it out. I don't mind the change but you should let the customer know ahead of time.
Also, we were finished and waited another 20 minutes in line to get the check, at which point the server who seemed to be multitasking told us to go back to the table for the check. Why not just let me handle it there since I had been in line?
They also enforced an automatic 20% gratuity on our party that Sat, I usually have no problem with this but I should be able to dictate what I tip if the service was poor.
They don't seem to care about customers anymore but seem to care more about dealing with volume.

Wow! From the outside, its not very visually promising, but dont judge a book by its cover. Ordered the string beans, lo mein, and chili oil beef. It was so flavorful! Ive traveled around and tried various Chinese foods, and this is top 3 for me. Try it! You wont be disappointed.
Large portions but lacking flavor. Average quality ingredients. $5 egg roll inedible.

I spent three years in Austin. My biggest regret was probably that I only ate at China Family about 30 times.
The fried dumplings here have a thick, crispy skin that puts every other gyoza I've had to shame. They're served with a homemade chili oil that I am always tempted to drink right out of the bowl. A plate of these would pick up my mood even if a meteorite were about to destroy civilization.
The griddle-cooked chicken is one of my favorite dishes, ever. The harmony of the wood-ear mushrooms, the lotus root, the perfectly-cooked broccoli and cauliflower, and the crispy chicken in a sauce bursting with chili, cumin, and coriander... it must be tasted to be believed.
Literally everything on the menu is amazing. The fried rice feels like you could eat it forever. The pork intestines have that deliciously rich organ meat flavor and are wonderfully crispy, served with stir-fried onions and peppers so flavorful they nearly overshadow the meat. The fish in special oil gave my friend a Ratatouille-style flashback. The eggplant with minced beef has converted devout eggplant haters. I could write an essay on every menu item.
The atmosphere is great. The owner and waiters are super kind and friendly. They made me feel welcomed, and I was proud to be a regular... although I felt a little embarrassed the time I visited twice in one weekend.
China Family is probably my favorite restaurant of all time, and certainly my favorite in Austin.
Six stars.

The nicest person in the world runs this restaurant and the food is amazing. They have some very traditional offerings you would expect from an Austin Chinese eatery paired with some more unique items.

My family and I have been coming here for many years now. My son and his buddy stumbled upon it back then and my son told my husband and I about it. The food here is excellent - I don't know how anyone could give anything less than five stars and I will tell you why. This is from scratch cooking, with all fresh ingredients, and every meal we have ever ordered from here has been delicious and beautifully balanced. You can tell each dish has been carefully and skillfully crafted and that the owner makes sure each type of meal is prepared in the specific way it needs to be to bring flavors out, cook it precisely so that the dishes do not come out overdone or underdone i.e. fried, stir fried, veggies, as well, rice being perfectly cooked. They also have a large amount of veggie dishes and tofu dishes, which I personally love. The owner and staff could not be more hard working and tirelessly work to make every customer satisfied and happy with their meal. With the prices of ingredients nowadays it is nearly impossible to turn a profit at a restaurant, and yet they deliver a delicious meal every single time and portions that will have you taking home leftovers, which by the way are delicious as leftovers as well. I think patrons that have been here multiple times over several years and keep coming back could be trusted about what a gem this place is - the care put into the cooking, the mastering of the dishes, and the truly hard working employees, as well as the owner who all go above and beyond to make their customers happy each and every time.

I always go to the Airport Boulevard location because I genuinely love that restaurant. However, this time I accidentally placed my online order at the downtown location, and I have to say the experience was completely different and very disappointing.
From the moment I arrived to pick up my food, the service was practically nonexistent. The guy working there didn’t even look at me; he just said, “It must be that one,” while pointing at a bag. Right from that moment, you could feel the lack of attention and care.
But the worst part came when I got home and tried the food. Honestly, it felt like they cooked just for the sake of cooking, with no care about quality at all. I ordered combination fried rice, and what I received was basically plain rice covered in sauce. It wasn’t even properly stir-fried because there were still many white pieces of rice throughout. The meats had no flavor, there was no good mix of ingredients, not even the usual onions or vegetables that normally come with this dish. Everything tasted extremely bland, flat, and honestly unpleasant to eat.
It was a very bad experience at this location, and you can truly tell when people do not enjoy doing their job. Very disappointing, especially because I know how good the experience can be at the other locations.
10 out of 10 recommend. I order food from here every Friday almost. It gets here piping hot and fresh. Its consistent EVERY TIME. Portion sizes are super generous. All around amazing.
