While visiting our daughter at UT, we stopped at this bookstore and wanted to grab coffee here. I ordered a large latte which was listed for $6 while my wifey ordered drip coffee which was listed for $2.75. The lady quickly entered the order and turned the payment machine towards me to swipe my card while she went ahead to make coffee. The payment terminal was asking me to pay $14.75 and I was confused how it went this expensive. Instead of quickly swiping my card, I asked her and then without any apology she told me she charged twice for Latte and she quickly corrected it as if it was "business as usual". It did not look like she felt sorry for the mistake and it looked like it was an intentional thing and done so often . In the days of swiping cards, we often tend to not see the amount we are paying and lately these point of sales machines do not print receipts and we are getting into a culture where you just swipe your card without seeing receipt or any breakup of the cost. Not a good state of affair. Drinks are already expensive and earning dollars has been getting more and more difficult so let us be very careful not to overcharge unsuspecting customers.

Not exactly sure what her name was but she has glasses and purple hair, she was absolutely incredible with the joyful attitude and making you feel welcomed, also made really good drinks. They really fit with the BookPeople vibes. Love her.

Lyndsay is the best! So unbelievably sweet and creative! Check out the wall to see her wall of fame idea with all of the polaroid camera pictures! The coffee was so delicious too! Absolutely get the iced matcha latte with vanilla and lavender! She completely made my night!

love the atmosphere here! soon as you walk in you smell coffee ? ? 2 stories filled with books! super laidback with a nice selection of gifts. Don’t forget to tip ur barista
Review below still stands! Just want to add that I popped in after brunch for something sweet and had the best interaction with the female employee. We discussed the items I was torn between, and she helped me make up my mind (molasses cookie) and suggested heating it. She knows best! I agreed. I also went with the seasonal latte (why not?) and enjoyed a strawberry latte with it. This was such a fabulous interaction. This is what Austin is all about. Connections. Realness. We need more of this right now.

The coffee was fine; nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either. However, the service was quite stilted and rude. Did not say a word to me the entire time I was at the counter ordering and did not smile once. I even had to ask what my total was as they just kind of blankly stared at me expecting me to pay without knowing how much my order cost.

Who would have thought this shop inside Book People would be so good. I am not sure where their pastries come from but they were very good (even the day olds). The Mediterranean Salad was wonderful. The Broccoli Cheese Soup was amazing.I have never drank coffee but my friend said the latte rivaled Starbucks. Serving tea lattes as well.No long lines! Fast courteous service! Books galore!I'll have to pop in for breakfast or lunch next time...

My daughter and I walked in not thinking much of this place, but were there because we saw online that they serve lavender lattes. The coffee area was not inviting, but after going to different coffee shops the last several days in search of a delicious lavender option and feeling discouraged, we decided to try it anyway. We LOVED it there!!! I wish I remembered the barista's name, because he was very polite, helpful and made THE BEST lavender latte!!!! We browsed, shopped and bought pins, stickers, socks, tshirts, notepads, bags and books and wished we could stay all day, but even though we couldn't, we returned this morning for another latte and the barista remembered our order from yesterday. We'll definitely return next time we're in town. The staff are kind, helpful and made us feel welcomed.Kid-friendliness: Great selection with a fun and inviting environment.Parking: Plenty of easy parking
Enjoyed the solar eclipse today!
