Have been eating at Hip Pocket for over 30 years. Absolutely love this place.
Lunch with my niece. Excellent appetizer plate, with 4 different fresh tasting items, including a really top notch hummus. Warm pita-like bread was great, and also had a complimentary taste of a seasoned/flavored hummus, which was delicious My donner (spelled wrong probably) and salad were great. Big portion. My niece had a pita with dome sort of meat, which was large, and she said it was very good. Nice lunch.
I had a late dinner on a Friday night with 2 friends after yoga in the same pretty plaza. The food was authentic & delicious & reminded me of my travels to Turkey. Great for vegans & meat lovers all. The lovely owner came to our table to say hello & he was utterly warm & generous. The staff are also all very welcoming & thoughtful. The restaurant was crowded but the service was fast. The prices are so reasonable & the portions are generous. The complimentary pita & dip are both so yummy too. There was a cute dog show on the tv. They close later than other restaurants nearby. We can’t wait to bring our husbands next time.
The lunch was delicious. The service personnel was friendly. The order came quickly and warmly. The meal was enough. The complementary Turkish coffee was excellent.
Small, cozy place. Decent prices for what they offer, nice staff. Got the “Not so little lamb” dish, which is basically lamb kafta served with a spicy sauce on the side (really good), tangy cabbage and rice. Also had the humus dip and pita bread, both delicious. Need to get back there to try other dishes.
I was in Austin for a business trip. By chance to met Mezzeme. I fall short of words, everything was perfect. I wouldn’t expect to find a pogaca and borek in Austin. The restaurant ambiance was nice. They have a tiny market in the restaurant, you can easily find some Turkish stuff.
Not sure where to start. Ordered (at counter) adana (first meal), iskender (second meal) two appetizers (baba ganoush and sarma) plus baklava and ayran to drink. They brought food to table fee wt a time. Sarma was so old stale i could not eat it. I asked the waitress to make aware of management yet all she did is took it away dunped didnt say a word to anyone. Baba ganoush was good, than came adana, despite i asked no rice or bread came exact same way they do normal order. Meat was so hard and rubbery it was as if someone add rubber mixture to it. A normal adana (they called it NOT so little lamb) breaks apart and full of flavor. Not sure how they managed to make this taste this bad. Comes Iskender: not a pide on bottom but pizza dough with pizza sauce and not real doner but probably frozen cutlets heated piled and NO boiling clarified butter?? Everything make Iskender this was not. Lastly had baklava, was so stale but cuttable with a fork! Forget crispy hard to split. Finally one person ask how things were which i told him. He deposited the sarma but told him not to worry about desert because did not have another 10 min to waste. I am assuming the larger gentleman that was walking around was the owner or manager yet not one sec came by asked if all was good. Why walk around if u dont look and see how things really are? My total bill came to 79..07 with tip (minus they credited the sarma) and i have to say the 1.5 hour drive was certainly a waste of my life plus cost. Would be better of street tacos. Calling this Turkish food is same as if you called taco bell mexican food. I hope this help they realize when u call a certain kitchen cuisine you have a certain responsibility to honor their food. Do less, but true to cuisine and people will follow. On positive side Ayran drink and baba ganoush was good.
No No No worse place to eat! Pizza was tasteless and Tacos were even worse dry old chicken with no seasoning. $45 on the worst food ever.
Very disappointed I’ve heard so much about how good this place was crust is extremely dry no sauce on the pie on the plus side there were ample toppings. Very bland tasted like school pizza so disappointed
I have been here once, it was with my wife. I ordered the Lamb Adana, which is a pita pocket. My wife ordered the the Kofte meatballs, also a pita pocket. Both were very good, service was polite and prompt. Everyone wearing a mask, place was clean. The meatballs were moist and well seasoned. The lamb was good as well. I especially fond of the garlic yogurt mint dip. Definitely go back!

“Mezze me” is a great cafe restaurant in central Austin serving very fresh dishes as well as a huge variety of combos to “make your own”. I recently had grilled veggies on power grains with greens, and my friend had the falafel plate. Both of our servings were huge. I can’t say enough about the freshness, which makes it all so flavorful! Fantastic value for the price!
