Houndstooth is probably the best latte in Austin, beating out Merit. I won’t speculate how they do it, but the obvious investment in high quality equipment is suggestive. An easy place to sit in, and I’ve never had any issues with the service even superficially. Houndstooth should be your baseline for coffee evaluations in Austin: even if you don’t quite agree with me, this is not somewhere that disappoints. I have it on good evidence this reputation has lasted two decades.

Top 10 best espresso pulls and pour over I’ve ever had.

10/10 homerun.

Baristas were smooth and efficient in their teamwork. From the building to the baristas to the coffee a perfectly cohesive experience and most importantly slammin coffee.

I’m garbage at names but the two chicks working at 8am on 1/8/26 were absolute pros.

A great neighborhood coffee shop with friendly, skilled baristas who consistently make excellent drinks, even when they’re slammed. It’s not my top cup of coffee in town, but I keep coming back because it’s reliable and an ideal place to work or settle in with a book on the couch. Food-wise, they carry Sour Duck pastries and are relaxed about customers bringing in food from neighboring businesses like Tacodeli.

The coffee is really good so is the wine it’s just that the place is too small. It’s always crowded and even when you can get a seat it’s very uncomfortable.

Got two vanilla lattes from here and had to throw them away, tasted overly milky and had a weird taste. Not sure what happened but sad to waste $15

I’ve been gradually trying out Austin coffee shops throughout this year and Houndstooth is my new favorite! Not because of the coffee or location or prices (all of which are great), but because their barista this morning was the single friendliest, most inviting barista I’ve ever met in a coffee shop. I don’t know what it is about coffee that brings a weird gate-keeping, snooty energy oftentimes, but this spot was perfectly welcoming and warm for a slightly-anxious casual coffee drinker like myself! Thanks yall.

Asked for a vanilla latte and got an unstirred, unflavored drink. When I politely told the short haired barista, she challenged me and was very rude. Based on my bill, she definitely heard my order correctly. Just incredibly off-putting service.

I just moved and have been trying a new coffee shop each time I “need coffee”. All have been just okay/ do not stand out. This latte is probably the best latte I’ve ever had. Besides the great coffee — the service was fast, inside clean, and had lots of parking! Cannot complain!

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in town, especially because it stays open until 7 p.m. on Sundays—something that’s surprisingly hard to find! It’s a great spot to sit and relax with a warm cup of coffee. I absolutely love their mocha—it’s rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. The staff is always friendly, and the space itself is cozy and inviting.

My only critique is the pastries—they’re okay but not the best. Still, for the coffee and the atmosphere, I’ll definitely keep coming back.
