Some of the friendliest staff and patrons you’ll find in Austin! They always make great conversation and make you feel welcome as soon as you approach the door. Great cocktails at a reasonable price, tons of outdoor space, and the ice cream machine is a fun touch. I went on my birthday and they even brought me an ice cream cone with a candle on it. Highly recommend for your next night out

An employee cursed at me for trying to walk out through the patio gate. He was right to send me back in; the gate was labeled as an emergency exit. I was confused, because it was propped open and a line of people walked through it. (I think they must have been musicians.) Was he right to curse at me? Was he right to continue being hostile when he saw me later walking out through the correct door? I'm not sure. I did learn, though, and I take responsibility for misunderstanding. And he helped me reflect on other moments where I've been the one acting in anger.
There's perhaps a larger lesson here about Austin in the 2020s. The creative theme of this bar only avoids feeling threatening and hostile when the staff remain kind. So too is Austin and its citizens. So please: visit, enjoy this place, be part of its artistic expression, but be aware that it might hurt when you encounter stress under the surface. 🥲🫠

This is my husband and my favorite spot to go to after listening to jazz at Monks! The first time we went there we are floored by the outstanding atmosphere and the drink menu is hilarious. The second time we went, we found out they had a backyard with tons of seating options and fun things to explore. This is the perfect spot if you want to experience Austin’s “weird” vibe and would be such a fun spot to go to with your bachelor/bachelorette party. We tell all of our friends to go here when visiting!

Agree with other reviews that there’s at least one bartender there that’s just extremely rude and unprofessional. Pro tip, don’t treat the people spending money at your business terribly?
This was one of the first bars I went to when I moved here and the staff and regulars have been nothing but the most kind and wonderful people I’ve ever met. Every bartender and bar back goes out of their way to make me feel not only at home but also safe—my Austin experience would be a shadow of itself without the Mamas crew. I am nothing but grateful!! Best bar in town hands down

I don’t usually write reviews, but the service at Mama Dearest was too disappointing to ignore. The staff had nasty attitudes from the moment I walked in—completely unwelcoming and rude. When I asked a simple question or tried to get my drink made, they acted like I was bothering them. There was no professionalism, no courtesy—just attitude. Honestly, if you’re looking for a place with decent customer service, Mama Dearest is not it.
