Cart Service Dimsum is back! Tucked away in a small hole-in-the-wall location in Northwest Austin, New Fortune has re-homed it's nostalgic and still very tasty, dimsum menu at the former location of Jenna's Chinese Restaurant (also formally North and South China). Those of who remember their cart service, finally have a place to return and be greeted by carts of wonderful appetizer sized, shareable plates of goodness. The caviat, and what most people fail to realize, is that this is a SOFT opening and with ANY soft opening, this is the time where they find the wrinkles and try to iron them out before formally having their grand opening. They're still working out the exact flow of the carts, their available menu and trying to hire staff. Keeping those things in mind, here's my honest opinion of the food, the atmosphere and its potential. The Food:The food is exactly as I remembered prior to the pandemic.. DELICIOUS! My party and I had ALMOST every offering that their carts toted:Steamed shrimp dumplingsSteamed pork dumplingsFried shrimp ballsTurnip CakeFried taro rootSesame ballsBbq pork Steamed bunsEgg custard sweet steamed bunsBbq pork mini triangle pastriesEgg custard tartsShrimp RangoonSalt and pepper Fried tofuSalt and pepper Fried shrimpWalnut shrimpChicken sticky riceChicken feetShrimp and leak dumplingsPork pot stickersChicken and leak dumplingsChinese broccoliFried egg rollsCongee with Chinese fried long donut(not sure what it is in English)Steamed pork spare ribsSoup-filled steamed dumplingsWe didn't get the steamed tripe, the long noodles with shrimp, the jelly dessert and a couple other things, but the majority of their menu we had on our table. The Atmosphere:The atmosphere was electric, chaotic, loud, noisy and obviously busy... all the hallmarks of an authentic Cantonese dimsum establishment. You'll see familiar faces. Many of the servers and hosts returned for the opening and are happy (albeit stressed) to be working at the family owned restaurant again, one server even came out of a 5 year retirement to be a part of the re-opening. Don't be surprised to find the restaurant owners and/or family members, literally running around the restaurant trying to accommodate everyone and make their patrons happy. I'm not saying that they have everything under control yet. There are many times were the carts didn't come around to our table and if they did, sometimes without items that we wanted, so they do run out of items as the service progresses. (Helpful hint, if you see something on a cart that you want, but dont want it until later, just get it and save it, especially if it's a dessert, the item might be available later).Potential:The parking sucks and parking on the adjacent residential streets isnt uncommon. Right now, the service is slow, it's undeniably slow. The wait after the restaurant initially becomes full, is nuts...the wait ranges from 45 minutes to 2 hours. The food carts might not come by your table often and when they do, might not have what you want. But when New Fortune gets the logistics of cart routes, item pars, and their staffing in order, it's going to be FANTASTIC. The first two are going to be the easiest to troubleshoot and fix, but the staffing will be difficult. I'm not sure what they can do about the parking, but other than those key things, New Fortune has the potential of becoming THE go-to dimsum restaurant that it once was prior to the pandemic. I certainly hope they fix these issues sooner than later, but until then, I'll continue to enjoy frequent the restaurant whenever I can.

Give them a chance they are good.I think of the Negative reviews are from the grand opening weekend where they were extremely busy. This is the only Dim sum place that offers traditional Hong Kong style dim sum and rolling carts in Austin. The owner is a great person and he is trying his best. Great foods great atmosphere so please give them a try.

We made it to them New Fortune soft opening this weekend and we could not be happier they're back. The food was just as fantastic as ever. They had most of our favorites and the items they didn't have they said they were working on offering it at a later date so they do definitely have some kinks to work out and more improvements. The wait staff was wonderful, we saw a few familiar staff from New Fortune that remembered us.Keep in mind Austin hasn't really had a dim sum place, especially one with cart service since the original New Fortune closed 3 years ago. We knew the wait was going to be insane if we didn't get there early. We got there almost an hour early just to make sure we got a table. I'd say you don't have to be that extreme but on weekends 30 minutes early is probably a must to get guaranteed a table, at least for the first month or so. The line was back past the building by 10:15 and they didn't open till 10:30. They do not seat incomplete parties so make sure you are all there. Once they opened it was definitely an insane flood of people and getting sat. You have to give some grace to the wait staff and front of house during this time period. Also keep in mind once you fill an entire restaurant anyone who didn't get in is of course going to end up waiting an hour or more before a table opens up so if you don't make the first round of people being sat. I'd say it's better to come around 12 or so when people start leaving. This isn't a new concept, it happened at the old location as well, the old location just happened to be huge so more people fit initially. We always went early and if we didn't we'd end up waiting an hour.Again, this was a soft opening so I fully expected the service to be slow and food to come out a little bit more sporadic than normal but I have no doubt they'll continue to improve.Overall, I'd definitely recommend them and I'm so excited they're back but please be patient with them the next few weeks while they work out all the kinks opening a new (and highly anticipated) restaurant. It was very very hectic and again give them some grace.

My husband and I visited on the 2nd day of its grand opening at around 2 pm to avoid the crowd. We noticed that half of the restaurant was empty and expected a quick seating, but we waited 20 minutes for a table. Interestingly, we ran into servers from Special Noodles ?. We knew what we wanted and ordered immediately when the server came. Then, we waited 15 minutes for the dim sums to arrive.1. The egg roll was okay, but honestly, the ones from Costco taste better.2. The Har Gao was okay, but the shrimp flavor was barely noticeable, and the skin was too thick. We prefer the ones at Qi.3. The Xiao Mai was okay, but we prefer the ones at Qi.4. The Xiao Long Bao was the best of all, but we still prefer the ones at Special Noodles.5. The spicy wantons were the worst. The wanton skin was dry and hard, and the sauce was bland.6. The shrimp balls were okay, but nothing special. We prefer the crab balls at Qi way more.Overall, the service was extremely slow, even though there were only around 10 tables when we were there. We give the food a 7 out of 10. Nothing spectacular, and it's not a restaurant we'd go back to, but it's better than many dim sum restaurants in Austin.

We were very excited that a new Chinese restaurant is opened in Cedar Park!I would like to preface my review by saying that this is a soft opening and I’m sure the owner will work things out and make the dining experience smooth and better for everyone. We didn’t get to try the dim sum since they sold out. We ordered four dishes. It took a bit longer than usual to get all our food together.I have a suggestion though: If the customer orders 4 dishes, it might be better to give the table all the rice. What happened was that the first 2 dishes came out and we had 2 rice. And the rest of the party had to wait for the latter 2 dishes to come out to get the remaining 2 rice. This should be a simple and quick fix.The staff were extremely friendly and it is what exactly one can expect and experience in a Cantonese restaurant.I am very excited to come back again in the near future to try out the dim sum. The restaurant shows a lot of promises and just needs to iron out issues such as long wait time for food and service. But again, the restaurant just opened and it is totally understandable.

Can't say anything about the food, cuz we waited for more than 1 hour on their Soft Opening weekend but ended up leaving frustrated. We got a number for a table of 6 and we told them we were flexible about splitting the group for 2 smaller tables. However, it turned out that larger tables were really hard to come by and after more than 1 hour our number got skipped and 10 groups behind us got their tables but we were still kept waiting and waiting. We told the lady multiple times that we were flexible, which got completely ignored. The tipping point was when she told my wife , in her own words "I never said a larger table has the same waiting time. It's always quicker to get a smaller table for 2 or 4 ppl. But I can't split your group because it's not fair for other people." We decided to move on. It was not for us because they really needed to learn how to treat customers. 0 Star for their customer service.

Different race different experience.A group of 7, ALL ASIANS, no forced tips.A group of 6, 4 Asians, 1 White, 1 Middle Easterner, 20% forced tips. Why would a restaurant treat large groups differently? Is this all because of ethnicity?I cannot believe it.

Ridiculous service. Front desk girl has no idea what she is doing, she asked me party of two? The she let another waiter led a couple after me went in.Sat down for 15 min without a server, had to stop someone only to be told all Dim Sum are sold out.Never going back!

We decided to try out the new restaurant this Saturday noon and the experience was terrible. We waited for an hour, and when we finally got seated (btw. at first they accidentally gave our seat to another couple because they mixed us up) we were told there will not be cart options for dim sum, only the all-day menu options. We were ok with that. But then 10 mins later, our server came again and told us the kitchen will no longer make any more dim sum, not even the menu options, and our only choice was to take whatever they have left. So we waited more than an hour to get ‘leftovers’ ?? That were not even freshly made?? If you ran out of food or your kitchen cannot handle these many orders, shouldn’t customers get notified before wasting an hour in line? ? And what’s the point of having a ‘menu’ when you cannot make anything listed on it? ?I don’t know if the chaotic was because they just opened and if it will get improved in the future. We didn’t get any food from here and went to other places for lunch.

I don’t know why my review was deleted. We waited for more than 1 hour and got the wrong dish. The manager didn’t even apologize. Food is over-rated. They have terrible service. DONT

My husband and I went to this place for dim sum, no dim sum today. When we ready to order foods. waiter came to us saying that we have to wait for more than 1 hour. Definitely don’t want to wait, left the restaurant. Bad bad experience of this restaurant. We went to China town Center restaurant, had great food and service with no waiting.

They need to update their waiting list system. They are still using paper writing numbers on them. The girls that come out to call your table were not very loud. They need to purchase a microphone or something. Terrible experience. Food was cold and very limited selection. The carts never reached our table if you are sitting on the inside. The place was cramp. Will not be going back. Don’t go on the weekend for brunch. You will be disappointed.

Their dim sum is great and yummy .... if you can get them to serve you some.I LOVE this restaurant in their previous location. It was so authentic. They pushed carts full of different dim sum dishes to our table every few minutes. We got to see everything, tried everything, and wondered if we ate too fast. But today when we went to the new location (here), they only pushed the cart here to our table a couple of times. We saw a lot of customers stare at each other with empty plates on the tables, hoping to have more dim sum but couldn't get anything. In the end many customers gave up and ordered regular dishes from the menu, or just left ( like us.)The staff explained to us they did not expect the demand. But I think that is part of managing a restaurant. That being said, their food is just as yummy as before. No complaints there for sure. The space is much smaller and more crowded compared with the previous location.
