I don’t think I can think of a time I’ve been served by a more miserable staff. The hostess and the bartender (who has blue highlights) could not care even less about the experience they give to customers. What a shame. The vibes for Sunday brunch were ATROCIOUS because of the staff.

Went for Lunar New Year and the food was great! I have been before, and it is one of my favorites for a combo of upscale and casual. The service was fun as well, a bit slow at times, however they were close to closing, so the waiters were also completing closing duties, totally understandable. They gave out red envelopes for Lunar New Year, which was a fun and thoughtful touch. My partner and I shared the beef ribeye and the and the brisket fried rice, both were amazing as always. Also makes for great leftovers as well.
The hot and sour soup was devious, the lo mein was perfect combination of chinese and big texas bar b que flavor. We also enjoyed the tao's chicken with white rice. Everything had a healthy spice to it, I loved it so much! And so easy to find anything available seat.

Fast/quality service and flavorful food! I had the Mala fried chicken recommended by the bartender. I was told it’s also a happy hour special on rotation for only $5! I paid $16 and would pay full price anytime, it was that good. Call in advance to see what entre is for happy hour that day.

I don’t know why people like this place. The food is honestly terrible. Frozen meals from Walmart taste better. Example, veggie rolls are terrible. The only thing that I liked was the donut and the servers. They were awesome! Very kind service.
Always a great vibe, we love this restaurant! Hands down our most frequented place in Austin!
Old Thousand never disappoints. The food is always solid and hits every time, and the service is just as good. The waitstaff and bartenders are friendly, quick, and totally on top of things—even on busy Saturday nights when the place is slammed. It's one of those spots you can count on: great food, great vibes, and people who clearly know what they're doing.
Overall great experience. Food was fresh and really tasty. Menu is simple, which an appreciate. Drinks were good. Not a typical Chinese restaurant featuring both good food, good atmosphere and good drinks. Will be back.

The food was great! The restaurant was humming even early in the evening. I love the energetic vibe and unique aesthetic.
Old Thousand is a fun, modern take on Chinese cuisine that blends bold flavors with a relaxed, energetic atmosphere. The menu offers a mix of familiar favorites and creative dishes, and everything we tried was well-seasoned and thoughtfully prepared. Portions are satisfying, making it a good option for sharing with friends. The vibe is lively and social, and the space feels stylish without being pretentious. Service was attentive and kept things moving even when it got busy. Overall, it’s a solid choice for a casual night out with flavorful food and a good buzz.

In my opinion, Old Thousand has some of the best General Tso’s chicken in Austin. In addition to the General Tso’s, I’d recommend the chili wontons and the green beans. We’ve been coming here for years, and the quality has remained consistent. That said, I’d recommend dining in rather than getting takeout, as the food doesn’t travel particularly well.

Old Thousand is fun and delicious. Only change I would say is to make the volume of the brisket bowl smaller by reducing the amount of rice, that way there would be more brisket and other flavors besides rice per bite. Also, the serving is already very large. Delicious food!
