Went for Lunar New Year and the food was great! I have been before, and it is one of my favorites for a combo of upscale and casual. The service was fun as well, a bit slow at times, however they were close to closing, so the waiters were also completing closing duties, totally understandable. They gave out red envelopes for Lunar New Year, which was a fun and thoughtful touch. My partner and I shared the beef ribeye and the and the brisket fried rice, both were amazing as always. Also makes for great leftovers as well.
Always a great vibe, we love this restaurant! Hands down our most frequented place in Austin!
Old Thousand never disappoints. The food is always solid and hits every time, and the service is just as good. The waitstaff and bartenders are friendly, quick, and totally on top of things—even on busy Saturday nights when the place is slammed. It's one of those spots you can count on: great food, great vibes, and people who clearly know what they're doing.
Overall great experience. Food was fresh and really tasty. Menu is simple, which an appreciate. Drinks were good. Not a typical Chinese restaurant featuring both good food, good atmosphere and good drinks. Will be back.
The food was great! The restaurant was humming even early in the evening. I love the energetic vibe and unique aesthetic.
Old Thousand is fun and delicious. Only change I would say is to make the volume of the brisket bowl smaller by reducing the amount of rice, that way there would be more brisket and other flavors besides rice per bite. Also, the serving is already very large. Delicious food!
We love Old Thousand so much, maybe as much as we love each other! We had our 2nd date there and we've been going back ever since. Best Chinese in Austin, no doubt about it.
Our favorite dine in Chinese food in Austin. Great drinks, fresh quality food, and the staff is kind and takes great care of you. The restaurant is vibrant and has such good vibes whether you dine at the bar or a table. 10/10 recommend!
We generally love old thousand and love going there for New Year's Eve. This year it was too loud. Although the food was good, it was overly salted and it could have been spicier. They brought some red pepper flakes which helped. The pickled cabbage was the best item by far. The shrimp dishes were ok but not up to their usual innovative flavors. The king pao cauliflower was not as good was when it's made with Brussels sprouts.
The food was good, service was okay. We were there for my husband's birthday dinner. Last year we came and they made him feel special and made the night memorable. This year it was the complete opposite. Every single table was occupied and there was only 1 person attending the tables. And maybe my husband and I are just not used to restaurants with tables being close to each other because the people to our left and right side were basically screaming into our ears while we were trying to have a conversation. If that's not your cup of tea then this probably isn't the place for you. Food was good though.

We went for their Christmas Eve event and enjoyed ourselves. Server was attentive, really good vibe and food was good.
Nice restaurant but I ordered my favorite brisket fried rice and it's changed! There was more sausage than Brisket..never had sausage IN it before and it totally ruined the rice with a sweet taste and the brisket had very little flavor!! PLEASE bring back your original Brisket Fried Rice. I was soo disappointed 😞...
The vibes of the restaurant are so fun — esp the music!
We love the food and have so many favorites (brisket fried rice, spicy chicken dumplings, mango panna cotta, mala chicken with no seasoning and buttered noodles for the kids).
Parking is a breeze in the lot behind the restaurant and the service is always friendly! They do get busy and the seating gets pretttty tight but we’re usually in and out within an hour.
We love bringing visitors here — such a fun and delicious take on comfort Chinese food.

Been twice now on Sunday Brunch when the DJ is there. The vibe is A1, the food is AAAAA11111111, the decor is adooooorable & fun & feels good!!!!... but the customer service last Sunday was simply WEIRD.. We often had to get their attention, even when we were one of the few tables in there. We were buying food & drinks, but you'd swear they did not care about sales bc they never would come back when glasses were empty or even ask if we want another. There were 3 or 4 different people that tended to us through our meal, all very nice, but just a strange feel. Even the ordering was off, and food coming out was off.
Buuuuuut, deliciousssssss everything has been both times!!
