Just completed a tour of the Central Texas Barbecue Scene. Visited Snow's BBQ-Lexington, Louie Mueller-Taylor, Kreus Market, Smitty's and Black's-Lockhart, The Salt Lick- Driftwood and Franklin's in Austin. It was great seeing the venues and the family history at these historic sites. I visited Franklin's in the past and felt it was the best brisket I had ever eaten in my life. Brisket!!!!
Great BBQ place that really lives up its reputation. I was there the day SXSW ended this year (2026) we got there at 1:42 pm and there was just a short line. One of the employees came up to the line and told us there were only 5 more pounds of brisket, nothing else, so we could stay to see if we get something, but we were not sure we were going to be able to order. The restaurant has a limited menu of sides like coleslaw and potato salad, which are well-received. The atmosphere is casual and pub-like, but it can feel tight. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible with a ramp and features a small dine-in area along with a pet-friendly patio. Prices can be high, but many agree that the food is worth it.
