I was too excited to try and it wasn't all that good. I ordered the 3 birria taco combo and birria torta. The consume was watered down. I've been on the toilet since lunch. The torta was small. I forgot to take a photo. There are much better places. Looks can be deceiving. Safe to say I won't be returning. This is not authentic Mexican.

First time trying birra tacos so I was really excited. I've watched a ton of videos on YouTube because I eventually want to make them. I figured I'd try them before making them first. The food was good but it tasted like a brisket taco. The consumé for the tacos was just the grease from the brisket. I expected more spice, seasoning and flavor based on videos I've seen but it was still good. I just expected something different I guess.

2024-02-22. Pepe's Tacos. Austin, TX. Pepe's Tacos is actually a taco stand at the mouth of the parking lot of Frozen Rolls Creamery. They have two large picnic tables that make up all their seating. We came for the Quesobirria tacos, but when we saw the menu, they also had a Birria Ramen. Another smart take on serving up food with ultra high margins... Did we try it? Of course we did! For those who are new to Quesobirria tacos, you dip the crunchy taco into the consomé soup. They're served fresh and hot, and if you eat them right away, you'll get that great cheese pull. Quesobirria Tacos. Three tacos with consomé soup and a garlic avocado aioli. $15. The tacos were pretty good. The beef was flavorful and tender. The taco shell was nice and crispy and the amazing thing about it was that it was not wet as some are. The consomé was greatly lacking in my opinion. Not much more than beef stock watered down. The avocado aioli was really good. Rich and creamy with just the right amount of garlic flavor making it prominent but not overpowering. The dish also came with a cup of rice and a cup of beans. Overall, 3 stars. Birria Ramen. This is essentially the Birria Beef, the broth it was cooked in, and Ramen. Since the Birria beef for the tacos were flavorful, I expected the same for the Ramen; and Pepe's didn't disappoint! The beef was not shredded like it was with the tacos, you got entire chunks of it! But it was still tender and flavorful. The ramen was not the fresh type, but I prefer the dried ramen so it worked out for me. They provided a side of onions, cilantro, and limes to complement the ramen and that paired well with the Birria broth. $12. 4 stars overall. Quesobirria tacos are pretty big in Texas, they're all over the place and both restaurants and food trucks sell them. They're pricey regardless of where you are (Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas) and sell for $15 (for 3). While I have yet to find a place that has both good tacos and good consomé, if you're in Texas, I highly recommend you try them. And if you're at Pepe's, I would recommend the Ramen over the tacos. If You would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

This place is top-notch. It's the go-to place for many Austinites to get Birria tacos (for good reason). The food truck is easy to miss if you're driving by on a busy day, but this is a must-try for visitors. The tacos taste great and the staff are really friendly.

Literally the best quesabirria tacos I've had to date! I stopped here between 2-3am after a night of partying and got some of the best tacos I've had in Texas! This hidden gem is truly hidden at night, as it's a little truck in a small parking lot. The menu is small with only birria items, it's straight to the point and clearly their area of expertise. I ordered my food is was, prepared quickly and wrapped with care. I traveled over 30 minutes to get home and eat and the food traveled so well! You could tell it was made with love! The consome is seasoned so well and the green sauce is a perfect pairing.

Food was nothing special. We got 3 tacos and 2 birria ramen. Both were riddled with fat. Hardly any meat. And the pricing was sort of a shock. Paid $43 and wasn't even good amount of meat to make the price worth it.Honestly will not bother coming back.
