$80 for two burgers that were sub par... no thanks. they add a 15% surcharge that says it's for healthcare for employees. It's not my responsibility to pay healthcare for your employees..: it's your responsibility.

We went here times in our visit to Austin. I have no idea why the reviews are low. This place has amazing food, friendly staff, great service, bright atmosphere. Good for brunch, lunch dinner and dessert.

Ambiance of this place is great. Service is okay, a little slow and not very above average but they were nice enough. The food is really lacking for me. The menu seems thought out and has a lot of potential, but the actual dishes were really lacking for me. I came in for brunch and had the chorizo queso, it had so much lime in it I couldn't taste anything else. I looked for the shallots, chorizo and different types of cheese but it was all covered by the lime. I also had the short rib poutine, the flavors and textures were poorly developed. The fries were soggy, short rib was tender but didn't have any textural difference between it and the gravy. Overall the dish tasted like a mush off potato, beef, gravy and egg. It lacked any fresh aspects, I wish it had some herbs to it. I wanted to like this place, but I couldn't. If I came back it would be for the butcher shop or to try the charcuterie, definitely not the food.

Great selection and staff. Fun assortment of to go snacks in shop and great local and fresh produce right next door

As we walked in, a man with medium-long hair and glasses blocked our way and "greeted" us with "Can I help you?" Because of weather conditions, they closed a couple of hours early, which is understandable. Regardless, that's an extremely inept and rude way to greet customers. There was no signage saying it was closed, and there were a couple of tables with people still having dinner. He quickly realized his mistake and tried to fix the situation by offering to make us some "quick burgers." His handling of the situation was so terrible it bordered on comical. I've been to S&T many times before and had always had a pleasant experience with food and service, but this man has made me not want to go back.

Service is friendly and attentive but a bit slow. If you have time and like good steaks in a not crowded restaurant, then this is the place for you. The only negative thing is that they have no Malbecs at all, and no Cabernets by the glass.

After reading some negative reviews, I was a little hesitant to try Salt and Time. However, my friend and I had a very tasty lunch with great service. We split the bread (with blue cheese butter and marrow butter), ceasar salad, and buffalo chicken sandwich (with beef fat fries). The two butters were really flavorful and went well with the little baguette crostinis. The dressing on the ceasar salad was different than most places which I really enjoyed. Plus, it came with a big anchovy which I am 100% about. Finally, the chicken sandwich was cooked nicely and was a good bread to meat/filling ratio. The fries had a solid beef flavor and a good amount of salt. I don't know that I was the biggest fan of their housemade ketchup, but that was such a minor element to an overall delicious meal. Finally, our server Anna was very attentive and helpful. She handled our substitutions with politeness and explained the purpose of the service fee very well. I look forward to coming back and trying more items.

We had lunch with a large group. Parking was a nightmare! I thought it may be ok for our group to have a quick lunch on a Wednesday, but finding parking took over 30 minutes. The manager and staff were not happy that we showed up with no reservation. We were willing to wait for a table. One of the waitress (wearing spandex running shorts) was rude. I would give her 1 star. There is a nice large full bar. They have a butcher shop. They have couple communal tables which is nice. They turned over a table quickly for us. Our waitress was great. She said they are known for their burgers. She also recommended the ham sandwich and steak. She also recommended the fries. I got the ham sandwich with fries. Our group ordered steak, steak salad, burger, charcuterie with cheese, queso and another appetizer. The charcuterie had beef liver and duck confit. It was my favorite dish. I was disappointed with the rest of the dishes. It lacked flavor. I'm not a chef but it needs special sauces/condiments to make it taste better. The bun to meat ratio is off. Too much bun. I would not return due to parking and the food.

Our steaks came in cold and for the price the food was not the best. Service was alright.

This is the exactly the kind of place that rests on the laurels of an aura from its past that doesn't match the reality of the experience in the present. Saved the visit for a guest in town -- that ended up being equal parts confusing and disappointing... albeit it was consistent throughout. What makes Salt & Time special is that it's a butcher shop. The restaurant is most of the space, and is brightly lit and simply appointed. The fact that it's a celebrated butcher shop in itself sets a certain expectation -- of quality product and knowledge in preparation/execution. With a regular prime Friday evening dinner hour seating, after taking our order the server first came back to inform they did not have ribeye steaks (at a butcher shop run restaurant)... and then returned again to inform they were out of the vegetable caponata side. The two steaks that arrived, ordered medium rare, looked sad in the most average way, and was so overcooked and dry it was as though whomever did the cooking couldn't care less. Similarly, the hostess and wait staff are some combination of curt, frazzled, disinterested, and completely unaware. All in all, seems like its best days are in the past... maybe their pasta offerings were where it's at.

First time, we went. Food was about three stars, 2nd time, food was so not good. Salad was wilted and drench in salad dressing. Really disappointed.

Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the short rib pasta. Not a single piece of short rib, all ground beef. Service took about 15 mins for a waiter to greet us once we were sat down. Cramped seatings, definitely not family friendly. 2nd time coming to this restaurant. First time was at lunch and I had the hamburger which was excellent. Wanted to bring my family back for same experience but quickly regretted it. Not consistent.

Went for lunch and enjoyed an excellent sandwich! Lunch menu has some classics just done exceptionally well and a good overall variety. Split the club and roast beef sandwiches both of which were excellent with plenty of meat and bread that held up well. Started with the sausage charcuterie which was delicious as well! Waiter was friendly and attentive. Patio is small but good size table for four and the area was quiet for lunch.
