Saxon is just the best live music spot in Austin. Well, I would add the continental club as well, but they both represent old Austin, which is quickly disappearing. Every time I go to Saxon, I just feel the love and vibe of what Austin has always been. The sound is terrific, the staff are friendly. Love you Saxon!
Totally authentic - real Austin joint with history. Serving up some of the best tunes in a musical city. Make a point to be in Austin for Bob Schneider and Bruce Hughes and Lonelyland - every MONDAY night (when they are not touring). Buy your seats early - as it sells out (or first come for a place at the bar). You will be entertained!
One of my all-time favorite music venues. An Austin classic (if you aren't familiar with the history, there's a documentary about it!) that hosts a variety of artists. I love how they offer residencies for musicians - it's a great way for the artists to gain (or maintain) a following, and it means that you get groups of locals who frequent at the same times, so it's a great place to make friends with fellow music lovers.
