Shady Grove was a staple of downtown Austin. It was one of those places that if you have a family member or friend come in from out of town you would want to take them there. To all the staff and ownership, you will be missed! Thank you for all the great times.

Sadly, Shady Grove has permanently closed its doors on May 11, 2020. Here is the statement from the owner on their website: Shady Grove is now closed. I am sad to announce that Shady Grove on Barton Springs Road will shut its doors permanently today May 11, 2020. Though my heart is heavy, it is full of gratitude and pride for what has truly been a magical journey of 28 years. It's been a privilege to serve this city we love so much. I am thankful for all our wonderful customers for sharing their lives and experiences with us as together we've watched our town grow into the big city. I am equally grateful and humbled by all the amazing music we've been able to present and share over the past 27 years, Words however will never fully express my love and gratitude for all the incredible employees, both past and present, I have been fortunate enough to work with over the years. I am the luckiest guy in the world for having known you. Shady Grove has been a beautiful spot on Barton Springs Road, one which has provided us memories of joy, happiness, magic, comfort and camaraderie. But Shady Grove is more than a physical location. Shady Grove is a place in your heart where people are friendly, life is easy, Austin is still cool and you are always welcome. I have been to Shady Grove every time I get to travel to the Austin area. I have been there about 10 times and the food and the service are excellent. My wife and I have been there for our anniversary dinner multiple times and we both love it.

Best place to eat in Barton Springs! During the winter, they have the fireplace roaring...the outdoor area has a movie screen during the summer with old classics playing like Goonies, the servers are super cool and it has such an old 1950's Americana vibe!

Very nice restaurant. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and my wife had a dinner salad. Both meals were tasty and served promptly. Beer was cold and iced tea was tasty. Unfortunately it was raining while we were there and we had to eat inside. They have a really nice patio that we want to try the next time we are in Austin. We'll be back.

Went to have supper here before a performance we went to at Zachary's got theater. They got us seated quickly and the wait staff was very attentive. I wasn't particularly impressed with the meatloaf which I love but not at this place so much. It wasn't bad just wasn't to my liking. My wife had chicken fried steak and she said it was very good. it's in a good location if you're attending a show like we were at Zachary's got theater so consider that if you're going to a show. Within walking distance.

A laid back, relaxing place with great food and a good beer selection. You can watch sports at the bar, sit inside for a more formal meal, or outdoors for a quiet evening under the sky (but with heaters for a cold night!)

We used to love Shady Grove and found it clean and featured delicious food. But the last time we visited Shady Grove will be the last time forever! As we were finally seated after a bit of a wait,we heard a scream at the table next to ours: a ROACH was flying into the face of a lady at their table! It was shocking and completely disgusting. But even more -so was the reaction of the staff when we told them why we were leaving They just shrugged like "So what? It happens everyday. " NOT recomnended.
Awesome local place. The breaded catfish was probably the best I’ve ever tried. Wings were good also. Best server ever....

Amazing all around, the service and food were great. We sat inside and it wasn’t a long wait at all; outside seating had a longer wait but that was completely understandable with the beautiful weather. Our server was so sweet to my little ones and gave great choices on food and drink. We will definitely be back.
