We’ve been living here a year and never walked into this amazing place. The smell, the taste and the hospitality made our first time visit worth while. The staff on the food line were very nice and gave us great recommendations — the moist brisket stole the show! Great food, great vibes and authentic Texan!

I went there for lunch to get a two-week plate, I didn't know that the meet would be sitting on the top of a pile of onions, I do not eat onions so I gave my plate away because now all the meat tasted like onions, I assumed the onions would be on the side not under my meat

This food was delicious but two employees behind ordering counter were being weird just staring at me . It made me very uncomfortable to where I had to ask for a manager. The manager handled the situation and was very understanding of my concerns.

I have to say that the staff here is great. But back to the point. I ordered brisket and sausage plate. They sliced it in front of me and I told them I was scared to eat it. I’m from Texas and know good Texas brisket. I could tell by looking at it. I tried the brisket and it was as I would expect. Extremely dry and bland. Same with the sausage. They exchanged the meat for chicken which was very juicy but I came in for brisket not chicken. So if you want great chicken this is your place. The pork ribs were very tough. I will go to Rudy’s next time to get discounted bbq.

Went in. Didn’t get a greeting or nothing. No sign saying where to go just a meat counter. Waited a bit to be redirected to a he area to order hot ready to eat food.Went to the area to order hot food. Didn’t get the chance to see the meat being sliced or the brisket I asked to get. Didn’t think anything of it because this place has 4 stars and great reviews. Got home and there was no bbq sauce which I asked about and was rudely told it’s in the meat… brisket was mostly fatty and sliced weird. Like lil chunks not slices. The sausage was bland and chewy. The beans were not seasoned. The potato salad was good. Probably stick with Rudy’s for fast bbq next time.

Great turkey and brisket sandwiches. Even the small ones are full of meat (thats what we get). Best Pinto beans also.
Service is fast and with ice cream available to top it off we go away full every time.

Stopped in yesterday (8/22/24) and they had steak special with two sides. All I can say: this is my first review for any restaurant and it was off the chain good. Great quality meat with juices running out the outside and flavor. Will be back.

Restaurantji Recommends
Way way overrated, the chicken was terribly dry with almost no juice, sausage was fundamentally basic no spice or enriched flavor at all, coleslaw was cabbage with milky water. The overwhelming spice in the house made barbecue sauce and meat rub is either cinnamon or allspice…what on earth is this about ?? What happened to salt and pepper…this was most definitely my first and last time at SMB….Bucee’s gas station Barbecue beats this by a long shot..

Decided to eat some barbecue at this location for our Barbecue Sunday dinner. The Dino rib was the feature of the day. When we sat down to eat, the Rib was 70% fat and what meat we we able to pull off the bone was super greasy. When we pointed this out to the manager and he said “well you ate 90% of it”. “And thats what should expect when you order the Dino rib.” Well thats not what I expect for $30 plus per rib. Believe me I don’t mind paying for good barbecue but this was far from that. This place should take some lessons from the barbecue restaurant on N Lamar, if they are going to sell Dino ribs. The manager did bring us out some brisket that wasn’t that great. Sides were good and the sausage was tasty. Thumbs down on the Dino rib. Save your money.

**Warning***
I decided to order from here and ordered a 3 meat plate. The 3 meat plate was $25 and I ordered pork ribs, brisket and pork belly as that is there friday special. Unfortunately when I opened my to go plate, it was the smallest portion I've ever seen. Literally only a single pork rib, some park belly and actual scraps of brisket. The meat itself was a solid 5/10. A bit too salty but a nice smokey flavour. For $25 though the value is abysmal. If I am being completely honest its kind of sad what they are giving out for the price. I personally would skip this place. Go to Stiles Switch, Salt Lick or one of the many other bbq spots in Austin.
